Following the recommendations of some I went and purchased nail polish for my new simpson brush. Now that I look at the package it says "nail hardener." Would that be the same as nail polish?

No, they are different. Try testing on something else and see if it will protect it.

This only needs to be a $4 mistake, all you need to do is get the clear polish - no need to take a chance, IMO.

I'd say give it a try, I use the Clear coat High Gloss, and after ~4 months some of it is flaking off, no damage to the Brush. Maybe the Hardener will last longer, try it on the base of a CHEAP Brush, myself, I would do the whole handle.

Ok, thanks to my lovely friend O.C.D I went out and bought some clear nail polish.
Not even remotely the same product, best not to risk it.
