Default Problem with my EJ DE86

hi guys, i recently bought the EJ DE86 (the one with the ebony handle) but am struggling to get on with it. I have tried it with timor blades and tiger blades, but both result in nicks and soreness.

Now, this is the strange thing, my normal razor is the EJ DE89, which i use with timor and tiger blades, and i get consistently smooth, irritation free shaves. Is there a slight weight/angle difference between the two Edwin Jaggers? Any other ideas as to why i get such different shaves?

Weird. I have the DE89 also, and I thought it had the same head as the 86/87, but w/ a different handle. I'd be curious to hear what the gallery has to say about this.

ive looked closely at both of them and the only difference seems to be the colour of the handle...very strange

Is there possibly a flaw in the head of the DE86?

I perceive a slight difference in the way that the 89s shave as opposed to the 86 and 87. Could be a difference in weight.

I have an 89L and 87, and prefer the shave I get from the 89L. Theoretically, they should be identical, but there is a difference to me. What???

I currently am using an Edwin Jagger DE 87, and have encountered no problems. I also am currently using Wilkinson Sword blades, and I am having excellent results shaving with this blade and razor combination. If I do nick myself, it is usually because I am rushed and get a bit too heavy handed.

I think (repeat, think) that the weight of the EJ 89 is greater than the others. Don't believe that The English Shaving Company site now lists the weights, but it seems I remember that from when I was shopping for an EJ razor some months ago. (Got the EJ89L and love it!)

According to Best Grooming & Shaving Tools, the 89 weighs 2.5 oz, as compared with 2.4 oz for the others.

Sounds like you need to switch the heads to find out. Let us know what happens.
Razors don't shave people. People shave people!

There are three critical types of moments in life: Times when we should use opportunity to be enamoured with finer details, and times we should ignore the minutia.

That is what I would do.

I have an 86 and have used the 89L, I feel I get the same shave from them.
