Default Finally did it...first DE shave :)

First DE shave done one hour ago...I took my father's DE, I don't know what model but you'll probably figure it out from the pic
Shave went fine, really smooth but I managed to cut myself at couple of places, especially under the lip since I have some acne around there...but in general it was a nice and close shave! I started to like it already
Of course my technique needs to work on, but no one was born with knowledge

Woohoo! Congrats on a good start.
The best razor for you can really only be found through trial and error but perhaps an adjustable would be a good place to start. That way you can adjust the aggressiveness of the razor to match the different areas of skin which might help if you get acne in some areas and need to go lighter on them.
    Either way enjoy finding out

    Welcome!

If you used a Gillette, well, you could do worse than a vintage Gillette SuperSpeed. I don't know enough to ident a razor. Plenty of them on e-bay and the b/s/t forum. The last one I bid on, I was the only bidder and got it for less than I was prepared to spend. You can do the same. It's a numbers game on e-bay, and just getting there first on the b/s/t forum.

Congrats! A vintage Gillette would be a good bet.

Check out the Gillette DE info on this website, narrow down the search to 3 or 4, and look at the BST or eBay for what you choose.

    Have fun!

    Good job, Vince.

As long as you still have two lips and a nose your first DE shave was a success !!

Congrats & welcome to this awesome hobby...?

First razor? I started out with the EJ DE89L & I love it. It is considered by most a "tame" razor that is forgiving & easy to handle.

  15. Default Great

I am glad you had a good shave. I too shave with a safety razor from my dad's era.
    I love it.

When I first started DE shaving what helped me was concentrating on my skin. I only shaved WTG for a while and worked on getting great prep. This helped calm my skin down. Once my skin condition improved and I had a good prep and technique , then I started on other variables such as blades and razors.

Pay attention to what your skin and face are trying to tell you and the rest comes easy.

    Good luck and Enjoy
