David, that Simpson looks fantastic! Could you give me the specs, please? Loft, knot diameter and overall height? Also, I'd like to have your opinion as soon as you try it! And, by the way, congrats!

Thank you, Brian. I know about the Brush Compendium, but somehow forgot about it.

    A beautiful brush, David!

I was lucky enough to get a 57 a few weeks ago myself and it's already one of my favourites.

As well as the bristle, I take notice to the handle for use and comfort and have found this one to be great.

Enjoy destroying your MWF with her

Thank you all for the kind words. I put the 57 through it's paces this morning and it performed admirably. The substantial handle feels great in the hand and that scrubby knot did a demolition job on the MWF. Such a good job, in fact, that tomorrow will be my last shave with the MWF before moving on to a new soap.
A quick pic of the new addition post-bloom to give you an idea of how she now looks.

57's gonna be my next brush aswell!

EDIT: Btw. I'm curious, according to TheSuperiorShaves measurements the 57 and Classic 2 is supposed to have the same knot width. But from your picture, it looks to me like the Classic 2 is wider. It also looks like the difference in loft is a bit bigger than 1 mm. Am I right?

The 57 looks like the perfect brush for me! Your's look amazing!

Thanks Peter. Without getting a pair of calipers, I would say that your guess is pretty good. The knot in my Classic2 does appear to be slightly larger than that in the 57 and the loft is certainly more than 1mm longer. I used the brush this morning for the first time and it was great- more research early tomorrow

I badly need a new brush, so I just weakened and bought the 58B. WCS are out of the 57s, and one isn't made of stone.

Thanks, I expect it to be a real soap-shredder! It looks like Vulfix are putting a more fan-shaped knot into the 5x series than in some of the other brushes.

    Now the waiting starts...

David, any follow-up thoughts on your 57 as it compares to the Classic 2? How is the 57 working out for you after a few more weeks of use?

    Hi Andrew,

the "57" is performing admirably but it is quite different to the Classic2. More loft and slightly less density are the important considerations and the handle is obvious as well....... still a most enjoyable brush to use.
