    Default Just Checking In

Well my blades finally arrived in the mail. While waiting for them I have been shaving with my old Mach 3 razor and practicing using the shave cream and brush. I think I have that down now.

I bought the hubby some CO Bigelow / Proraso and he was the first to use the DE. It wasn't good. He did 2 passes and loved it. Said it was easy, felt good, etc. But there was one spot on his neck (under the chin) he felt needed a third pass. That is when the blood started to flow. So his neck is a little cut up and burned but he said he would try again in a few days. He is definitely not sold on the whole thing though.

I am using the DE for the first time tonight and will let you know how it goes. Thank you all for the help and encouragement this week!

Tell hubby no pressure. Does he relather between passes? The soap acts as a lubricant and will makes things go smoother. Practice, practice, practice.

It sounds like you are doing well. Congrats

Curiosity lead me to I try one of SWMBO's Mach 3s a couple of weeks ago. The razor burn was pretty harsh. I am confident I could adapt over time, but why would I? I have great shaves with DE, blades cost less, reduced environmental impact, intentionally being connected with the present, rejection of "convenience" that is foisted on the masses, ritual, pride, new acquisition disorders, retro appeal, new (old) skill set, etc. (BTW, SWMBO is not an hairy person. She shaves very infrequently, rejects convenience for convenience's sake, but chooses live in the present).

Why would you and your hubby make the switch to DE? I don't know. If you do it will be for reasons important to you all, reasons that outweigh the adjustment discomfort. Good luck to you both.

Glad to hear you got your blades...and now the journey begins.

What brand of blades did you receive?

    First shave = success!

I used a Gillette 7 o'clock blade, TOBS avocado, and had no cuts. I did one pass and went back over a few small spots and my legs have never felt so smooth!

Hubby will have to keep working at it. I have no idea what he specifically did, as I don't want to be looking over his shoulder and nagging him about it, right guys? Poor little feller. He was watching some videos on youtube so hopefully his research is fruitful.

Good for you! TOBS avocado is one of my favorites. The 7 o'clocks are nice, too. Welcome aboard!
