    Default Conspiracy Theory

I am hoping that the members here on this forum might be able to shed some light on something I have been thinking about lately. Why do we as people tend not to believe in "truths". Why is it that most tend to think there is a deeper meaning into what has happened, rather than the plain fact that what happened, did happen.

Examples: JFK, RFK, 911, Aliens, the list goes on and on. I myself have doubts about certain things, but then again this is what led me to make this post. Have we as a society always believed there are puppet masters in the background working their magic?

Human Being are somewhat hard-wired to see conspiracies or should I say patterns in life.

It has been going on since the beginning of humankind.

People long for explanations for that which cannot be readily understood or digested. They also like to blame others for anything that they perceive to be beyond their control. Most of all, I think it's a manifestation of ego- "I understand what's really going on."

It's hard to believe that great events have simple explanations or are caused by individuals who otherwise would be insignificant. Lee Harvey Oswald was a loser and a weird young man. He bought a cheap rifle with a scope and changed history. How could this be? The leader of a superpower, with enemies armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons, navies, spy services, and large armies could not have been killed by one low-life loser! But he was.

well, in some cases there are puppet masters controlling things. Look at how well our elected officials obey the corporate masters. Unchecked power can produce horrible results. Except now the puppeteers don't have to hide themselves. Take the Koch brothers for example. They are destroying the country and defy anyone to stop them. It's not paranoia when it's real. When you wake up one day and your town or city no longer has a municipal government and has been replaced by a 'management' corporation, how will you feel? Please feel free to call me a 'loon', I don't mind. Amerika Uber Alles!

Well I'm going to differ here with the earlier opinions. Looking back through history shows that conspiracies are a fact of life (Et tu, Brute?).

Sophisticated societies like to think that they are too educated to believe in such things, yet around 1922 (if I'm remembering this correctly) the researcher/propagandist Edward Bernays showed that more developed societies are actually more susceptible to propaganda (here: government coverups) than more backward ones. This is probably due to the access and control that the government has over the media.

The first real inkling I had that something was amiss in the US was with the TWA 800 disaster in 1996. The CIA showed the the aircraft was able to climb, I believe, around 3,000 feet after the fuel tank blew up and the front of the plane fell off. Yet simple physics shows this to be impossible, and most of us have seen what happens when a missile hits a plane--the plane stops right there and falls due to the change in the center of gravity. Yet somehow TWA 800 was able to climb 3,000 feet after the fuel tanks exploded? I mean, come on. It only got worse when it was revealed by an retired Navy officer that hundreds of witnesses who saw a missile hit the plane either had their stories ignored or changed by the FBI.

Even now there is a government conspiracy to cover up the full extent of the deterioration in the US economy. Little memes are concocted like "green shoots" to keep people content and ignorant of how the US is destroying the US dollar though increased US debt, which really boils down to the simple supply and demand for dollars. When that one didn't work any more they made new ones, like the idea that QE1 and QE2 will save us. When that doesn't work (and QE2 won't) they'll come up with something else. Then when they finally can't keep a lid on it any more, the economic destruction and subsequent reaction will be a sight to behold...

Yes. For some this longing for explanations causes a belief in conspiracy theories. For others, this causes a belief in.....God.

I agree with you. Questioning isn't a bad thing at all.

I do think that some folks have a tendency to assign a complex and intricate theory for something happening, when a completely plausible and infinitely simpler explanation is available.

What a coincidence that I believe in Occam's razor.

Wait a minute... is it really a coincidence?

    :
    Exactly.

It's like when folks say that Williams is a great soap, that simply requires alot of work, a stiff brush, pre-soaking, ph balanced water, etc, etc.

When the reality is that is simply a crummy soap.

Put on your tinfoil hat and you should be alright.

I am of the same belief as the Beav.. too much has been discovered many years later that shows what was actually happening was different from what we as a people were being told by media/government at the time. when the cat is out of the bag the government says it was for our own good as they did not think the people could handle the truth at the time which then leads to people questioning everything they see or hear especially when it comes with some type of government/military connection.

In the example of the Kennedy assassination, the official "findings" are often contradicted by eyewitness testimony and physical evidence and plain common sense.
