    Default Overrated Movie Thread

Let start a thread on movies you feel are just plain, "Overrated". Feel free to elaborate why.

My first of many I will add is "The Natural", for some reason I cannot explain why I never saw it until last night. Seemed at times corny downright predictable. (No spoilers but the book is much different)

    Inception.

    Rudely self-important, and too loud.

The English Patient. I still can't understand why everyone thought it was "soooooo goooood".

    Citizen Kane.

Never understood the appeal of this movie. I know I didn't see it when it first came out and the filming was ground breaking for its time, but seeing it for the 1st time a few years ago, it did nothing for me.

    Casablanca.

Same thing. My wife and I watched and at the end, just stared at the screen for a few minutes.

Any time someone mentions this movie all I can think of is Elaine hating it in Seinfeld and having to see it a second time with Mr. Peterman. I have never seen it myself and don't really plan on it any time soon.

Like Elaine, I would have preferred seeing "Sack Lunch."

I don't believe there is such a thing as an overrated movie.

However, there are some movies that I cannot understand why they are so acclaimed or beloved. First of which on the list is, coincidentally, The English Patient.

    Others on the list:

Crash (In my opinion, this movie beating Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture is probably the biggest travesty in the history of the Academy Awards)
The Graduate (Probably a generational thing)
Jules and Jim (I can appreciate the artistic appeal of it, but the story really bored me)
The Last of the Mohicans (I thought this was flat out awful)

The Piano - Mindless drivel posing as great art. There is nothing in this movie that is worth seeing. The story line is pointless, the characters unbelievable, and the production mediocre at best.

I really like the English Patient. I've found it's fashionable to hate it, but most people that claim to hate it have actually never seen it.

    Present company excluded, of course.

Yep.... Generational indeed, at 50 I can truly say this one is a time capsule of that era.... And, perhaps Gillette was listening closely as you will see in this clip...
