Default Question about Ebay Chinese 12K's

I think this was on the forum awhile back, but here it is again. Has anyone bought one of the $24 Chinese 12K's from Ebay, and can comment on whether they are worth purchasing? Thanks in advance.

There's one for sale on the B/S/T forum.

Is this the one sold by open_razor?

I had one and it performed the same as the one I had from woodcraft.

btw, 12k is more marketing, but if you like the edges off it who cares.

Yep, that's the one. Why didn't you keep yours?

I just never liked using it and prefer the edges off other hones.

I have been contemplating getting one, but my coticule should produce a better edge...when I learn how.

With my coticule I am stuck at HHT1, although got parts of the blade up to HHT3 on my last try. I will try at least one more time this week.

The C12K will produce a wonderful edge, possibly better than a Coti. They are just notoriously slow and hard.

I've had both, C12K and now a Coti and while both can give a very nice edge it is my opinion the Coti gives a more comfortable shave.

+1 I like my Chinese stone (its a 15k Ebay, but I think they are most likely all the same as the 12K). I find the edge from my particular stone to be smoother and more comfortable than from off my coti. However as I'm still mastering the coti, this is more than likely just a result of my noob Coticule skills. That said I find that doing delusions on my coti, then going to the Chinese stone on just water is very nice. The Chinese stone by itself is just S-L-O-W.

I prefer the coticule edge myself.

The chinese 12k stones aren't bad stones though, and was better than the barber hone I had(an unmarked one.)

You could hone on water on the coticule after the Chinese stone and see if you can notice a difference (positive or negative).

I circomnavigated my Coticule skill by using a razor purchased from Life2Short on BST. His Coticule finish is at least as good as my best. I think the shave was actually kind of similar. I got more a little feedback, so it might have lost a touch of smoothness. However even the ATG pass was still comfortable, not as smooth as from my new Thuri, but not a big step down from the Coticule.

I had one for a while and it gave pretty good edges. It was quite slow though. Certainly very good value for money.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll just stick to trying to master my new Coticle - maybe I'll get one later, if they are still available.
