Pacific Shaving is offering a blade oil that they say will extend the life of the blade up to 95%. Having worked in machine shops for part of my life I can see how that would work. Keep some equipment oiled and clean and it will last longer. Looking at their ingredient list for the blade oil:
Helianthus Annuus (Hybrid Sunflower) Oil, Laureth-4, Cyclopentasiloxane, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Aloe Barbadensis (Organic Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Aleurites Moluccana Seed (Kukui Nut) Oil, Tocopherol (Antioxidant), Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Essential Oils

I'm a sword nut. While I cannot say how much longer an oiled DE blade will last, I do know one thing:
Magical, herbal or not, potions with advertised otherworldly steel-preserving- and restoring properties do not exist.
Oil, and pretty much any oil will do, only creates a thin layer that stops oxygen from touching the iron.
Thereby preventing oxidation i.e. rust. That's all.

Whether that works on steels that are either "stainless" or have a platinum or other non-corrosive layer remains to be seen (and tested).

Today I used a 1954 Gillette flair-tip with a vintage 1955 Gillette Blue blade (NOS). I was VERY careful knowing that these blades aren't as sharp as modern blades. It wasn't so bad a shave. I got through it with no nicks. Neck area was a little rougher than usual to get through. All in all, if I ran out of blades and these were my only choice I wouldn't be afraid to use them.

Drews50 PIF'ed me a gold Gem OCMM. First shave last night with an open comb and an SE! Corked a new Gem blade, followed Mr. Guys video tips. DFS and just one weeper! Sweet! I like these SE's so far, can't wait to continue and try my Streamline when I get my SE legs a groovin'. Thanks Eric!!
