Gem 1912 with TP stainless blade
same as yesterday, prob same as tomorrow.
Might mix it up though and go with the MMOC![]()
I'm a sword nut. While I cannot say how much longer an oiled DE blade will last, I do know one thing:
Magical, herbal or not, potions with advertised otherworldly steel-preserving- and restoring properties do not exist.
Oil, and pretty much any oil will do, only creates a thin layer that stops oxygen from touching the iron.
Thereby preventing oxidation i.e. rust. That's all.
Whether that works on steels that are either "stainless" or have a platinum or other non-corrosive layer remains to be seen (and tested).
Today I used a 1954 Gillette flair-tip with a vintage 1955 Gillette Blue blade (NOS). I was VERY careful knowing that these blades aren't as sharp as modern blades. It wasn't so bad a shave. I got through it with no nicks. Neck area was a little rougher than usual to get through. All in all, if I ran out of blades and these were my only choice I wouldn't be afraid to use them.![]()
