Default My Gillette Tech shaves the best so far, why?

I have a 64 SuperSpeed, a 65 Superspeed, Knockoff (Jacobs) TTO, an EJ89 and this unknown year Gillette Tech.

I get the best shave I have had so far with this Tech, why is that? Is it my technique? Is the tech more forgiving?

I've used a bunch of blades in all of my razors, and some blades definitely work better in different razors but I was just amazed how effortless it was to shave with my tech.

A lot of people write techs off as only beginner razors but they are very good shavers IMO. You may need an extra pass compared to a more aggressive razor, but we all enjoy shaving now anyway right?

Because it's a damn good razor! The Fat Handle Tech was one of my favorite razors. I only sold it because I'm a "one razor guy" and kept the Edwin Jagger 89 DE L as my sole razor. But the Tech was almost as good.

Sounds like you may have found your "go to" razor.

Gillette Techs are under-rated in my opinion. I think that the "inexpensive" and "mild" tags that everyone give this razor tend to make people think that they are not as good as other Gillettes.

They may not be the best razor for everyone, but like you have found out - they will be the best for some.

There are some (myself included) who think that a mild razor with an aggressive blade is the way to go.

A Tech with a Feather is a great combo.

My RAD killer was a Tech head on a Cooncatbob Handle.
    It's perfect.

If you love the Tech, check out his handles.

Hey, congratulations! Your go-to razor is an easy one to find...you can now start to collect every variation without spending a fortune. Of if you're not a collector, you can shave with the knowledge that you can replace a lost razor cheaply and easily.

And I second the CCB handle suggestion... they are great. And if you don;t like them, you can get90% back on BST.

The Tech didn't get made for decades because it was a piece of crap!

Obviously you are doing something wrong. Keep trying until you find you prefer the most expensive and rarest shaving items, or else you are just selling yourself short.

Simply because it's the razor for you.

My go to razor has been an old type I got in a WW1 Service set. Why is that one better than the other 40? Who knows. It's just my razor.

Now it finds itself in serious competition with a few SEs I've started using.

I've become addicted to the Techs so now I've got a pretty bad case of TRAD. I like the idea of the CCB handle....group buy, perhaps?

Thanks guys, I think you're right This may be my go-to and yes I am already on the path to acquire more.

I was looking at CCB's handles, but it would be a shame to buy something like that already having all the machinery to do it myself. I may turn out a couple handles and see what I come up with. I'm not used to doing dainty work so it will be a bit of fun for me.

I love my Tech. It is out on loan right now and I think about it every week....

Getting a good shave out of the Tech alluded me for a long time. Eventually, I was able to dial it in and I now have 2 DEs: a Fat Handled Tech and my Grandfather's Red Tip. If the Red Tip wasn't my Grandfather's, I'd probably just have the Tech.

Since I now shave with straights, I only use the Tech occasionally.

I'd be more than happy to be a beta tester for one of your handles...

For me the Tech is a mild shaver and I love it. I can make as many passes as I want and never get any irritation. I believe you could shave with it in the back off a moving truck and get a great shave.

I like using my Tech it is an under-rated razor. Maybe your face and hair type truly benefit from a milder razor.

I could make you one Windows style but you will constantly have to reinstall as it may sometimes just fall apart when you are using it.

    HECK YES! +1

I've tried probably 15 razors these last few months, and the fat handled tech is the greatest by far at delivering BBS awesomeness!

    Well played...

Interesting that Linux went with the penguin...It's a great little bird that can't fly.

Hmmm...comes up just short on functionality, you know?
