Default Super Lathers-What is the HIGHEST number of ingredients

which you have ever utilized in concocting a "Super Lather?" 3? 4? 5? I have read guys talking about using a cream, and a gel, or a cream and a soap, etc., so I was just curious. Has anyone ever gone half-mad and used a gel, a cream, AND a soap? Maybe you used all three to create your Super Lather, but only AFTER you had applied some pre-oil shave to your face?

I am thinking about creating the super lather to end all super lathers. I will keep you guys updated on my efforts.

I used to play this game when I was a kid, but I called it "Magic potion", or alternatively "Secret formula". I would pour off gunk from various bottles into one bottle, and then tell people about the magical or scientific properties of my special concoction.

My current lather formula is really quite effective and elegantly simple. It involves only 2 ingredients: soap and water. Although I will say, using filtered water does work a little better than my tap water, I would argue that's from removing ingredients, not adding them. Different soaps may lather better than others, but rather than mix them together, if I wanted to play chemist I'd just make my own soaps, using only those ingredients that would add the characteristics I wanted. It's easier to get consistent results with the simplest formulations. Throw too many things in the pot, and you don't know what's interacting with what, or wether what may be neutralizing the favorable characteristics of what else.

i find my upper end cremes dont need anything added to them but when im rotating i use
shaving creme co, Williams soap and a few drops of glycerin bowl lather to make a dful (damn fine uber lather) it lacks that sense of elegance and smell but does a great job.

1- if a soap is good, it is good and doesn't need to be "tricked up". If a soap isn't good- throw it away and move on to the next. Life is too short to be trying to make poor soaps good.

KMF Key Lime & Col. Conk's Lime Glycerin. Splash of Old Spice Lime when done. Heaven.

C.O. Bigelow's euculyptus & menthol with Dr. Bronner's peppermint/spearmint shave gel. Splash of Aqua Velva or Osage Rub when done. North Pole in the summer time! :)

I agree! I don't see the point to super- or uber-lathers. I get perfectly good lather from a single soap or cream plus water.
