Default I think I've gone insane, tell me I'm not alone.

So my wetshaving addiction which has accumulated many shaving soaps, creams, aftershaves and razors. Has now become a Fragrance addiction. I have spent many of $$$ just this month on colognes. What is insane is I am married with children so I never get out, Well besides to buy more cologne.
So I put on my cologne on ask my daughters if I smell good. "Yes Dad!" They are tired of me asking that. My wife just thinks it and or me is funny. Ugh! I think I have gone insane. Please someone admit I'm not alone.

Your not alone...I don't have a wife and kids but when I receive a compliment from someone it fuels the fire to my addiction. There are just so many scents to try and I'm on a quest to find my signature scent.

In the last month, I've ordered Schulton style classic Old Spice from India (hasn't come yet), and a ton of other stuff off ebay -- Lord Premium razor, 100 Derby blades, and I've discovered that I like Avon Wild Country, so I bought 2 tubes of Wild Country aftershave, 2 bottles of Wild Country cologne, 6 sticks of Wild Country deodorant, and Wild Country body wash.

The prices were so low that I couldn't pass it up. I am building up a nice stock, so I probably won't have to buy anymore for at least a year or more. lol. But I have my eye on a new razor.

I'm not a high end cologne guy, but even so, hanging out here has moved me from the only on special occasion wearer category to a place where a day without some sort of fragrance is a rarity.

You are not alone to such a degree that, on Basenotes, there is a forum devoted to members who feel they might be going overboard. New hobbies can take on a life of their own, it seems. But from your short note, I get the sense that you are surprised by this complementary hobby, fragrance, as a result of your wet-shaving hobby. Yes, there's more fragrances out there than any of us can shake a stick at, but with time, I suspect the options naturally diminish. Meanwhile, samples are cheap and you can even
    swap for them.
    Finally, you can't be crazy if you are asking your friends if you are crazy. ;-}

I ask all three women in my house how any scent from soap, cream ,A/S, ASB, fragrances is on me... that includes my wife, my 5 y.o, and my 2 y.o.

I get the most positive reactions from the 2 y.o. though and I have come to rely on her advice when comes to any new purchases. She is just such a positive influence.

The 5 y.o. has some very interesting comments that are just wild at extremes at that age...

Far from alone..ever been to Basenotes.

Don't know where it comes from in us, but some of us are just into scents.
There are far, far pricier ADs.

From age 15, I picked up a sense of stylin' from my dad and have been into scents ever since. One of the key differences in the last few years is finding this forum and Basenotes which opened my eyes to other guys like me with a whole wide world of new scents to try. Not sure how long you've been at it, but for me there were quite a few purchases for a few months, but I've slowed way down. Everybody is different, but my collection has hit a point where something has to really grab me to make a purchase. My frag collection will outlive me at this point.

That is funny because my girls are similar ages. I love it when they say, "Mmmm... You smell like a Man." That is the response I always get with my D.R. Harris Sandlewwod Aftershave. So now naturally I have multiple bottles of D.R. Harris sitting in my online shopping cart. With me wanting to click the check out button.

You have nothing to worry about! I'd be embarrassed to admit how many bottles and samples and decants I have scattered about in places all over the house. I have a stash in the living room, bedroom, dining room, and bathroom. My wife actually found a decant in the kitchen spice cabinet one day. Now THAT'S crazy.

I'm you too. Don't sweat it. At least with the colognes, I can but samples/decants for just a few bucks each...

Becareful. Samples are gateway drugs. You think they're cheap because they're just a couple bucks each, but then you end up liking all of them and trying to figure out how much your kidney would go for on craigslist to fund future cologne purchases.

I'm scared to tally up the amount I've spent in the last ~6 months after discovering B&B and basenotes... I can't even bring myself to check...

I think most of us are in the same boat, but it sure is a good boat to be in. Helping the world to be a better smelling place, one spritz at a time!

I have quite a wish list growing on my Basenotes wardrobe. It's a great site that I use to limit my search for a cologne purchase. My last purchase was yesterday, Terra d'Hermes. Which was recommed to me for a nice fall/winter scent. Very pleased with it. Now I'm looking for a nice Rose/Flower scent.

For a rose, I would recommend:

    Domenico Caraceni 1913
    Creed Windsor
    Montale's Black Oud

Not to fuel the AD or anything.... :D

Welcome to the club. Some of the shaving ADs diverted me for a while but it's been a while since I've had the urge to buy another soap, razor etc. However, the fragrance AD goes back many years for me and I see no sign of it abating any time soon. Although I do find that B&B has improved the quality of my recent purchases. I found products here that I had never even heard of.
