Can Someone Explain "Etsy" Shopping Sites?

Hey chaps. Forgive the ignorance but what in heck is this Etsy site a lot small vendors link to? I am guessing it a way to have storefront without having to set up your own website or server. Correct? Do you like buying things this way? My concern, if my ASSumption is correct, would be a lot of fly by night companies who will not fulfill orders. I was wondering since there is a nice looking shampoo bar from a company but Etsy is the site and I want feedback.

Etsy is legit. It's a real company with its headquarters in Brooklyn, NY.

As for the vendors, I've bought a few odds and ends without a problem. As for how they would deal with a bad vendor, I couldn't tell you.

I imagine it's as safe as eBay. Especially if you use a real credit card to buy, then you can have the charges taken off if they flake. My sister loves etsy.

Etsy handles the payments, so they exert a level of control over their vendors that wouldn't exist if you were buying directly from them.

I have bought a couple things from them around Christmas and had some great experience with the vendors. My wife bought me some shaving soap that took me a while to get it down, but now I can lather with it pretty well and it has a great scent.

I used PayPal to pay for the things that I bought and thus felt pretty secure about anything that might go wrong.

My wife has bought tons of stuff from vendors on Etsy with no problem. Whenever I check the bank account I seem to find Paypal transactions from Etsy vendors....and suddenly there is a new item in my daughter's nursery.

I've purchased items from Etsy, been very happy with the results. Etsy is primarily a site that sells hand-crafted items. It's a great site for finding unique gifts, particularly for the ladies in your life.

I have ordered from vendors on Etsy 4 times in the last month and have had fantastic results. Half of my shave den storage is filled with stuff I have bought from Etsy.

And yea it is also a great place to get gifts for your special lady

I've ordered from Etsy without a problem, although I had delt with that particular vendor before. I imagine they have avenues you can go through if there is a problem.

Etsy is great, I've bought several items, including relatively expensive hand-crafted jewelry without problems. Best thing to do is look closely at the feedback. I won't buy from a vendor with even one problem transaction, as sometimes people do flake out.

I'll throw my hat into the ring for Etsy as well. I've made a few orders from the website and have not had a problem. They do have a feedback system that is similar in nature to eBay, so you can make sure the vendor you're buying from is reputable before you make a purchase.

One thing I've found great about Etsy is that many of the knit items are made after you purchase them. This allows you to specify sizes or even request customizations. The vendors that I've dealt with are head and shoulders above the 'average' ebay seller in terms of communication and friendliness.

Yes, you will need to register to purchase but it is painless. I just placed a few orders on Etsu no more than 20 minutes ago. Like the others who have posted, I have had good luck with my orders. Great place to browse for gifts.

Etsy's legit but they've caught on to razor prices. Deals are gone. Used to be you could pick up an entire lot for 10 bucks. Now they actually list razor names, date codes, etc. Hadn't been there in a while & just checked - they have a FB for 50 bucks and some date/code SS for 25 or so. I think there's even a used razor "vendor" on there too. But as others have said, it's nice to get SWMBO gifts!
