    Default 1982 Razors

Everybody always talks about collecting razors from their birth year. Now I am a little on the younger side around here (not by much ), but it would be cool to get a razor that is as old as I am.

So my question is; were there any DE razors still being manufactured in 1982? If so, what were they and which ones would be worth aquiring?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    CZ

The only razors still being produced in 1982 (in America, anyway) was the Gillette Super Adjustable. They were made up into 1986. So you just made it

The standard black handle Super Speed was also still being produced.

Yep, you're looking for black handled razors with a 'C' code under the head.
C1, C2, C3, C4. The number corresponds to the quarter of the year. So if you were born in March you could look for a C1 to be the closest to your birthday.

As someone who started shaving at that time, the most common DE and Injectors in stores at that time were those from Schick. They do not have the date code on them that we can figure out, but both the Krona and the Injector were much more available and still being promoted at the store at that time (e.g. buy 5 blades get razor free or buy razor and 2 blades for $1.99).....That is why I had several of the Krona and the Injector from that time period, but only had one Gillette razor (that cost about three or four times as much money).

Good point, Trooper! I forget about those sometimes.

HoosierTrooper was right. The other DE razor still being made by Gillette in the 1980's what the black handled Super Speed. Here is what it looks like:

Thanks for the information with helpful photos!

Now I know what to keep my eyes on the look out for. And I actually was born in March so the C1 will be the closest I can get. Both the adjustable and the superspeed look good and may someday join my stable.

    Thanks again,
    CZ

Post an ad in the WTB thread, maybe somebody has one they'd part with.
Just be sure to specify you're looking for the 8s version or you'll end up with some from 1957.

I have some Gillette blades from 1982, which is kind of cool because I have son who was born that year.

The only plastic on the Super Adjustable is the plate under the head.

The handle is anodized aluminium powder.

I was born in '84, so I am not so keen on the vintage razors of our era But I did chance on an '85 black handled SS (for travel), so they are out there.

What about the Slim twist? or those tech-like 7oclock razors?

What about the slim twist? Are you asking me to consider it? Or are you asking in general because it was made during the time frame? I am not too familiar with the slim twist, and I am not sure what you mean by "tech-like 7oclock razors".

Therefore I will let other people respond.

    Thanks,

This is YMMV, but it seems that DE's by that time had degenerated into hollow shells of their former selves--too much plastic and cheap, tinny metal. So I'd recommend finding a nice Atra with the metal handle. You may not use it all the time, but most people end up not using their birth razor all the time anyway--in fact my birth razor is a Fatboy and I haven't picked mine up in well over six months. At least with the metal Atra you'll be getting a Gillette product that was in its prime at the time.

Unless of course you could find a straight that you can determine was made in your birth year.

Alternatively, I am in this same pickle, and have found myself looking for razors in my dad and grandfather's birth years - seems kind of cool too.
Razors don't shave people. People shave people!

There are three critical types of moments in life: Times when we should use opportunity to be enamoured with finer details, and times we should ignore the minutia.

As suggested by HoosierTrooper, if you put an add in WTB you'll be surprised how many people will respond. I had loads of offers. Mind you there were a few more being produced when I was born. Trying to get one off e-bay could take forever. I think with such a request you have to aim for the largest number of people with the biggest collections of razors. That pretty well defines B&B I'd say! And with a late model like that there's a good chance it'll be NOS or hardly ever used. Good luck

I think that's a great idea. The whole point is to have a date that means something, don't let the historical accident of being born too late stop you. If that makes any sense.
