    Default My First Restore/Reknot

This brush has very special meaning to me, my wife bought it at Crabtree and Evelyn about 1986 while we were still dating. I know at the time it was far more than she could afford, although she can't remember the price. I just remember it as the nicest brush I had ever used. I must of used it for for close to 15 years, it wasn't that I could afford a new one but it was one of those things you don't notice changing over time. It finally got retired, but I kept in the medicine cabinet, even though my wife threatened to throw it out.

After joining the forum, and finding this section and seeing what you where doing I knew I had to order a knot. This is a silvertip from Larry at Whipped dog. It arrived yesterday and got it set in today. It would of been nice to have set it deeper but couldn't without drilling in to the Lucite. I held off my shave until this afternoon, it could use a bit more stiffness, but lathers like crazy, and is super soft. It still smells a bit, a lot really, so a couple of shampoos might be in order.

I want thank you guys for all the info, I would never of thought it possible. If any of you happen to know who made this particular brush I would sure like to know.

Looks great. I could live with a little extra loft to have a brush with that history to it. Good job.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments.

As for my wife, she couldn't see why I would want to keep it, but now that it is done, I think she thinks it is pretty cool. As I was taking pictures she had to get her hand in.

I agree it looks great. My first restore was on an antique sterling travel brush. I scratched the silver and used a knot that was a touch larger instead of a touch smaller so it was a grinding and forcing nightmare. LOL Nice work

    Great job, and great back-story.

I have an old vdh handle that was my grandfathers that is cheap cracked plastic and isn't worth anything. I'm gonna restore it eventually just for the sentimental reasons.
