What's new

I see dead people's razors.

This was really cool, and I tried to capture it - with some success.

I have been trying to remove soot from razors, and today I gave liquid plumber a shot. I left it soaking for a few minutes in a bowl, and as you can see it started to remove some stuff. What was really cool is that after disturbing the solution by removing the razor, the shape of the crud was still recognizable. I could see a 3d ghost image of the doors, the seam where the doors meet, even the endcaps.

That is so cool. I may have to try that with my next cruddy razor just for the effect.

and for any that are interested, the liquid plumber was not quite strong enough for the soot. Not enough lye I guess. We use stronger stuff to strip decks, and I'll try that next. I'm only attempting such drastic measures because any razor I try to salvage will need replating no matter what I do.
If it's strong enough to remove the soot, it will need an acid bath afterward to neutralize the lye. I don't recommend that anyone try this. This is nasty stuff and can burn your skin in short order.
