Default Best Pizza in the NY/NJ area?

Growing up in the city and living all over NJ and the outer boroughs the best places are the tiny old school pizza parlors with the paper plates and fountain sodas that come in those cups with the Italian flag on it or the chef twirling a pizza.
Lets discuss our favorite pizza places.

Sacco's in Manhattan on 9th ave and 55th st
Zia Lisa in Edison on Rt 27, think they closed or moved
    DeNino's in Staten Island

Cool thread. I'll try the one on 9th.

I live up the street from Grimaldi's in DUMBO. I've never had it, but it's pretty esteemed.

Its a hole in the wall, literally, I used to work up the block and would hit that place a few times a week. I love Grimaldi's but too touristy. Great pizza though. I would go there early when they open to avoid the crowds. There is one in Hoboken unless they closed that one. They were about the same.

I'm a big fan of my local joint, Luigi's Pizzeria in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. Nothing fancy, just a damn good slice. Although this place has only been around since the early 80's, it has all the makings of an old school joint for sure.

Asking for the best pizzeria is like starting a bbq war. I don't know about the best slice (several contenders) but my vote goes to House of Pizza and Calzone on Union St. for the best calzone- deep fried, and no ham on Friday.

Doesn't that question bring memories back... It probably doesn't even exist anymore.

There was a place across from the Willowbrook Mall on rt 46 in NJ, a bowling alley with an eatery connected to the alleys. Not a pure pizzeria, but the food was excellent! Fantastic pizzas, fastastic steak and cheese, draft beer w/frozen mugs. We tried to go there oncea week when we lived in the area. That was over 30 years ago. It's probably been torn down by now.

And I can remember as a child my dad taking us to Staten Island on the ferry to Ilventos, I have no idea if that's spelled correctly. Really good pizza and platters of mussels. I can still remember that and I was preteen back then. We never ordered anything else, just those 2 items.

Man is my mouth watering up right now!

John's 278 Bleeker St, Greenwich Village

I never go back to NY without visiting (several times) at least one of them...

In the early 90's I worked in Brooklyn, we used to go to Grimaldi's(Patsy's) for lunch every friday, they would hold a table for us. I went back recently and could not believe the lines, or the neighborhood for that matter.

Oh yes it's still there. And yes Bayonne, a bar on every corner. Some blocks have 2-3 bars all next to each other. I miss Bayonne lol

Koronet Pizza on Broadway at 110th. The biggest, best slice I've had in the city. One slice is over one foot long, roughly 14-16 inches, and 6-8 wide with over 14 slices of pepperoni per slice! Absolutely amazing!

My grandma used to live right next to greenwich village. There was a pizza place rigth by her apartment that was really good. It was somewhere in the vicinity of Cooper square around 3rd Ave and 5th st. It was good, but that was a few years ago.

I always liked hitting Benny Tedino's in Hoboken after hitting the bars. Huge slices would always cure the beer munchies. It was also pretty good during the day too.
