Default Anyone ever tried shaving with Aloe gel?

Like, the kind you put on a sunburn. When I was younger I was examining a bottle of the stuff I had, and I noticed that it said on the back label that it's good for a variety of things other than burns, such as being used as a hair gel or a shaving gel. Curious, I ran some through my hair, and it actually did work pretty well as a hair gel. Next, I tried it as a shaving gel, and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too bad at that either. Mind you, this was back in my canned goop and disposable bic days, so take that for what it's worth.

Anyway, I just thought about that now for some reason, and I'm starting to wonder if it works as well as I remember it, or if it wouldn't hold up to my current line of high end creams and soaps. Unfortunately I don't have any Aloe gel at hand currently to test it. Has anyone here ever tried that stuff for shaving?

    Gregny2002,

    Yup - it worked OK.

The Aloe gel I had was from the UK chain 'Holland & Barrett'.

Being water based and quite slippy, it does a reasonable job as a shave gel.

    Have fun !

    Best regards

It very well might work. My only question would be, wouldn't the skin absorb it too quickly? Let us know if you are indeed successful.

I haven't tried it on its own. But on top of shaving oil it's amazing.

Tried this morning. Got a pretty irritation free smooth shave and skipped the buffing round. Also able to just spend about 1/2 the time for the shave as I do not need to prepare the lather and the rinsing off after the shave was quite easy.

But the negative side is that there is no lather to indicate which area had not been passed by the razor and which are had already. And I missed the warm lather feel. Will do it again on days I am feeling a little lazy.
