Default Have any of you fountain pen users done this.

I usually have 5 or 6 differnt inks that I am using at any one time, and I was looking for some good inkwells for a fairly cheap price. I picked up 6 partially used bottles of MontBlanc ink on Fleabay (I think the ink is crap) dumped and cleaned the bottles, and have 6 very functional inkwells. The design of the bottle is brilliant.

That is a very good idea. MontBlanc ink bottles are classy. I could also recommend the Pelikan 50ml bottle. It has a place on the top of the bottle to rest your pen.

I personally have not, but I have heard of people doing so before. Goulet Pens sells empty ink bottles, as they go through quite a few with their ink samples. Pelikan bottles are quite functional, as once the ink level gets low you can tip the bottle onto its side to fill your pen. The same goes with Waterman bottles.

I like the MontBlanc because by tipping the ink into the "heel of the boot" you get consistent ink depth for filling, and can get every last bit of ink.

If Mont Blanc ink is crap then what is your go to ink company?

For Bottles I like the MB and the old Skrips bottles with the built in tip well.

I dump the ink out of the old bottles, so I can use the bottles for my Noodlers and Aurora. The MB bottles make great inkwells, but MB ink is watery.

I prefer Private Reserve, SWMBO swears by Noodlers. Of course, I'm right but she wins.

I like the Noodler's bulletproof line of inks when I am writing checks, or writing medical records, because of the extra security, otherwise my favorite everyday black ink is Aurora.

That would be my one exception. The Legal Lapis is great, but you have to use a pretty wet nib.

I really like the way Legal Lapis looks, unfortunately I have to use only black on medical documents (how boring).

I think you meant Private Reserve

You NEED ink wells for the useless bottles like the ones Visconti ink comes in

Thanks for catching that. I've been more than a little scattered lately.
