Default Dubl Duck antique store find

I found this brush in a local antique shop for $18.

I don't think it has ever been used. There are scuffs on the handle, but none are where you would expect from actual use, just storage.

The bristles were brittle but seem better now after a conditioning treatment with my wife's conditioner.

I used it this morning and it was stiff and prickly. I can't decide if I want to reknot it. I guess it depends if it softens up.

I saw this brush over a period of several months on a shelf and never bought it because I am not a vintage brush collector. I guess I am now

The other side of the brush says
    Boar Bristle
    Made in West Germany

WOW! That's a great find. If I were you, I think I'd re-knot it. That's probably boar bristles, and since it's 50+ years old (?), a new knot would breathe new life into it. The question would be what grade of badger or the original boar?

    My thoughts exactly.

    Any suggestions, anyone?

I would want to be true to the original intent of the makers of this brush.
It would have to be a sympathetic restoration, whether badger of boar.

The knot is boar, 22mm with a 50mm loft in an extreme fan shape.

Scroll down the page to the cream-colored knots. These should be a dead match.

    Thank you.

The decision is made, then. An email has been sent to Rudy Vey.

I would like to reknot this myself but would not like to use this brush as a learning tool. It's just too pretty.

I love the look of those vintage red and white handled brushes.

I love the shape of vintage brushes.
That's why I use them for inspiration in my designs.
