Default How long to break in a boar?

I've got an Omega 31025 that I've had about a week now. How long will it take for this to break in? It's already very soft on my face and makes great lather. I loved the brush from the first use. I understand that once it breaks in it will lather even better.

When the tips split is that visible? Is it easy to see?

It varies brush to brush. I find the best thing to break in a boar is a good aggressive lathering in a textured bottomed bowl followed by a 36 hr dry. Repeat that 3-100 times depending on the brush and you're set.

Boar bristle splits look pretty much like slightly magnified human hair split ends, so if your eyes are good, they're easy to see. On a macroscopic level, the brush also starts looking MUCH fuller.

I can only speak for boars in general. It will take anything from 2-4 weeks depending on the bristle and its density.

I don't believe tip softening is a marker of break in, though it may contribute. When it absorbs and retains water consistently, therefore lathers consistantly, I'd call it broken in. I don't know whether lather will get better, but you may get more produced.

If you've got it lathering well from the outset and it feels soft, that's a bonus. Quite a few of mine did too, others didn't want to play the game for a while.

Foyle - sounds like you are off to a good start with your Omega. Just keep using it. When the tips split it is quite visible to the naked eye. The top of the brush will start to look a little more fuzzy and it'll feel even softer on the face. Omega makes a good boar.
