Allen Edmonds Recrafting

Has anyone used the recrafting service. I have a pair which is really comfortable- they are wearing out- especially the heels. Cant afford a brand new pair anytime soon. Is recrafting worth it- the info on their website looks appealing. Any thoughts. thanks......

I have had several pairs of AE's recrafted and they do an excellent job. Go on their website for a walkthrough of what is done. If the shoes are not in condition for a sucessful recraft they will tell you so. Beats the price of a new pair especially if they are cordovan shells.

I've been using Allen Edmonds recrafting for years for three pairs of dress shoes. They do a great job. New soles and heels, redye the uppers and new cork liner. You can also specify the soles that you want since they now have a variety of rubber options in addition to leather. My only caveat is that there is a line of less expense Allen Edmonds shoes that do not have the cork beds - I would probably take those to a local shoe shop for heels/soles and save some $$.

I also agree. I have used the Recrafting service for years. My shoes come back brand new. I also have had come of the leather soles changed for rubber one. You can look on the site for the variations of soles that can be placed on the shoe.
AE has great customer service and craftsmen.

i wasn't happy with the durability of the leather soles on my allen edmonds. i only got a little over a year of wear out of them, but i am admittedly hard on my dress shoes.

i sent them to b.nelson instead based on recommendations on styleforum.com and askandyaboutclothes.com. i should get them back any day now and will report back

Thank you for your opinions. I did watch the videos- thanks again. I am not sure if mine has cork in it. I guess I can call allen edmonds and find out. The fit and comfort of the shoe I am considering re-crafting is great, so will send it it.

I can only recommend their recrafting services. Used it several times, had dress and dress casual shoes re-done, very good workmanship. Just got a pair back that was the second time recrafted, and they look like new again.

I've had two pair of Waltons recrafted with excellent results, highly recommended.

b.nelson gets my aldens when they need some TLC...

I'll chip in to say that the money I have spent on AE recrafting has been very much worth it.

glad to hear you like them. do you typically go for the j.rendenbach soles? i just got their standard re-sole this time to compare to the original allen edmonds soles.

Essentially, recrafting = new. I've worn Allen Edmonds for years and recraft the shoes until they tell me they can't be recrafted anymore. It's a great deal, IMO
