Default SCS Bay Rum w/ a Twist

    Hi Gents,

So I received my SCS Bay Rum w/ a twist EDT... Today is the first time I've worn bay rum of any type- so there is a bit of an adjustment period as I become familiar with the scent on me (if that makes sense). A few initial thoughts...

    1. I can totally see how people would characterize the initial scent as "Ginger Ale" or "Rum and Coke" or "Coke w/ Lime"- That is exactly how I'd characterize the scent during the first..10-15 minutes.

    2. After those 15 minutes, the scent calms down quite a bit, and as others have pointed it, it becomes warm and spicy. On me, the scent of clove dominates from that point forward- the scent reminds me of unlit clove cigarettes, if any of you are familiar with those.

    3. The bay rum/clove component is not as "sweet" as other bay rums I've smelled... Its masculine and dry...

    4. Like I said, there's definitely an adjustment period while you begin to make a scent "your own"- but I like this scent- different but very fun for spring/summer... I wouldn't be surprised if it continued to grow on me and by the end of the week I'm addicted to it (which is exactly what happened to me w/ the signature scent of Nancy Boy.)

    5. In all- w/ a likelyhood of it being within a couple days....

Great job Sue- hope you're feeling better!!

    Rick,

I, too pull quite a bit of clove from the dry down. Personally, I find this scent is complimented very well with Pinaud Bay Rum Aftershave... but as with any fragrance, YMMV. However, I would recommend using Pinaud as more of a eau de toilette or body splash (being mindful of where you splash!), rather than aftershave directly applied to a freshly shaven face. While opinions regarding the fragrance of Pinaud Bay Rum vary considerably, most will agree that it's burning sensation is unparalleled!

It's interesting how much the sense of smell can vary from person to person.... I can't stand the scent of cloves and don't detect it at all in the B&B w/ T. *shrug* Anyhow, it's one of my favorites.... which reminds me, I didn't put any on today.... hm, I'll have to fix that.

Since Sue's products are all from scratch- this could be the result of minor changes from batch to batch mixed with body chemistry differences...

But it does raise an interesting point...really- who is to say that we all smell the same thing in the same way... My clove...for example- could smell like your apple pie... is there really any way of proving otherwise between two people or a group of people?

I saw that Sue's website was taking orders again and could not hold back - ordered a bottle. More importantly, I hope the site's status also means Sue's feeling better.

Not only does the sense of smell vary, but I suspect body chemistry plays an even greater role in how the nuances of this fragrance seems to differ from person to person.

I smell a lot of clove scent in the dry down with this as well. The scent doesn't have very much longevity, however.

How long does it last on you guys? I get four or so hours out of it, then I don't smell like it anymore.

I get at least 4 hours out of this cologne... often times closer to 6 hours. However, I get the impression that 4-6 hours for a bay rum cologne is actually pretty good. After reading many posts regarding bay rum products, it seems the general consensus is that most bay rum fragrances are rather fleeting. That said, Sue's version is truly an exceptional product at a very modest price. I personally recommend it, as I all but gave up on Bay Rum colognes until coming across this one. Layered with Pinaud Bay Rum Aftershave, this will certainly be among my go-to fragrances for this coming Summer.

I get a good 6-8 hours or more. It's great, especially now that summer is arriving.

While I've never tried her B&B w/T, her original Bay Rum has been accurately described as a "Bay Rum on steroids". One medium spritz lasts all day on me. Good stuff!
