  1. Default McNess 659 White and Red

    Hello gentlemen:
I just put a 24mm tgn finest in an old McNess handle I scored on the bay for 99 cents plus $4 for shipping. Not sure how so many people let a bakelite handle slip by undetected, but I'm not complaining. The top half of the handle seems to be made out of something akin to porcelain, so it is quite heavy. In the pics, it is sitting next to an E.J. Best Badger and an Ever-Ready 650pb with a 22mm black badger knot. The 650 is also a fantastic handle btw.

    Cheers,

    Nick

Very nice! I like the looks and feel of the vintage handles compared to a lot of todays modern designs. Its even more fun to take a smaller handle that had a 20mm knot and then open it up and stuff a 22-24mm knot....works out pretty good really.

Just got my 24mm black badger and 24mm super silver tip knots yesterday. I was quite surprised by the feel of the black badger...a coworker wants one made for him using that knot, might have to purchase another for myself.

    Most excellent restore

Like the white and swirly bakelite, bit different from the "normal" black and swirly .

    And at 99c a bargain !!!!

That really is a nice one and I am embarrassed that I let it slip through my fingers.

Thanks guys, I am going to upload a better picture of the swirly bakelite today. The camera on my android phone just didn't do it justice.

Update after 2 uses: The TGN finest is a much different knot than my other two. It seems to be so densely packed that it doesn't absorb or fan out like my other two. The difference seems to be analogous to the difference between a natural and foam sponge, i.e. the TGN finest seems to act more like the foam sponge. Does this change with use?
