    Default FSOT: Shavemac 177 SOLD!!!

    All-

SOLD. Thanks to all who stopped by.

OK. I need to fund another brush. Price Decrease - $65 will allow you to own this barely broken in Shavemac!

Thinking I wanted a brush that was a little larger than than my Rooney 3/1, I traded for this excellent Shavemac 177 brush.

I thought I was getting a 23mm brush. It seemed larger than a 23. Using a caliper to measure, it is actually about 24 1/2mm. And that's a larger knot than I care for.

The previous owner (Greenerock) says he used it only about a dozen times. I've used it exactly three times. Unless I'm wrong, it's Finest grade and luxuriously soft as Shavemacs are. Hasn't shed a hair.

So, it's for sale or trade. (Sale only)

    I'm wanting an Emillion 1 or PJ2 or possibly a SR3722. Basically a 21-22mm knot on a 55mm handle. I'm open to other possibilities.

Brush was $80 (now $65) shipped CONUS. Please PM with trade possibilities.

    That is one great-looking brush.
I hope somebody snaps it up before my SBAD kicks in.

Forgive me if I'm out of line here but i'm pretty sure that the 177 only comes in Silvertip.
Ahead lie many fantastic shaves & AD's...But by appreciating #1, you justify #2!

It actually does come in Finest as well. You can find both Finest and Silvertip 177's for sale at WCS. I believe the number is for the handle style.

The Finest 177 23mm @ WCS is $78, $2 away from free shipping.

    Gents-

Thanks for the observations. I was told by the prior owner that this is a finest grade. I really don't know how to distinguish between Finest and Silvertip in a Shavemac.

And, please, let me clarify that this brush is NOT a 23mm brush.

I've measured it with a caliper. The knot is between 24 1/2 and 25mm. This is a larger and fuller brush than a 23mm. Hence the price of a 23mm at WCS is a starting value, not an apples to apples comparison.

In Silvertip grade, Bernd charges $50 more for a 3mm larger knot size.

For someone seeking the luxury of a larger Shavemac brush this mya fill the need.

    Thanks to all
    Regards,
    MaxP

    Max:

Knot measurements are taken where the knots are bound (by tying or glueing), not where they emerge from the handle. Further, they aren't always precise measurements - they fall into "classes" more or less, so that the largest of Bernd's 21mm knots won't be a full 2mm smaller than his 23mm knot.

A 23mm knot of reasonable density will rapidly flare to 24-25mm as it extends upward (for visuals of this, browse the knots on TheGoldenNib.com). Depending on how deep the knot is set, it could be quite a bit wider where it exits the handle. Check with any brushmaker - your knot has to be smaller than your hole, sometimes by a few mm.

If you're pulling 24-25mm measurements at the base of the knot, it's the 23mm "model" Shavemac. That makes the "comp" accurate, and it should be considered.

    HTH,

    Josh

    Josh-

Thanks for the insight. What you're saying about knot measurements does make sense.

This particular brush is still a larger size than I prefer and am looking for a den where it will be happier!

I'll study this a little more to see if a price adjustment is needed.

Just an FYI, there is a SR3722 for sale on the BST 2 threads above yours. Maybe you guys can work out a trade?

Sorry for not seeing your post earlier. The brush is a SILVERTIP. I paid right around $100 for it.

That is correct. I paid $125.00 for my #177 23mm silvertip brush that I bought a couple of years ago from Shavemac. This is a really good price for an excellent brush!

I bought it directly from Shavemac with a stand. I think the total was about $150 with the stand, shipping, etc. It's a great brush but I like a little smaller ones. Somebody will get a fantastic deal on this.

Then the gent who bought this is a LUCKY man.

Isn't it grand when there's a good deal goes down?

Today I ordered a 21mm in Finest from WCS. I hope I'm not disappointed after using this Silvertip. This brush was simply marvelous to use. Had it been smaller, I'd have kept it.

    Thanks to all.
