I just picked up a Rubberset Aluminum #3 brush. I was curious if all of the aluminum brushes are #3, or if they came in different numbers. If so, what is the difference?

I've got an aluminum rubberset #4.
8cm tall handle, 2 piece (screws apart below the knot), with a 25mm boar knot.

I have a #3 of the same type brush it has an 8cm tall handle and 25mm knot I think, you got me wondering what the difference is maybe some sort of date code. - Blade boy

Got this baby awhile back it was my first boar brush, it was in great shape for it's age and the bristles were still somewhat dense and flexible but after a few month of use the bristle were beginning to break off and shed so today I scalped it! all work done on this restore was done by hand with no power tools what so ever, the tools I used were a single edge razor blade a 1/2" drill bit (turned by hand) and small flat bladed screwdriver some sand paper and some 2 ton clear epoxy and I used a 26MM Super Badger Knot. After 2 hours of hard manual laborit is complete and sweet!

Got a picture of a #3 with the knot intact? Maybe one's banded (the #4 isn't), or the lofts are different?

They look great. do they all take the same knot size?
I think so 25mm I hand sanded the 26mm down to fit in. If I could of got the handle to unscrew I might have been able to fit a even larger knot in though the back of the ferrule. But I learned alot on this restore. - Blade Boy

The left one is a #3 and the right is a #4.

I don't see a difference in the handles, were the knots different, pre-restore?

Those are great looking handles! Are they only available vintage?

The #3, on the left, has a 24mm x 65mm Silvertip knot and the #4 has a Super Badger knot of the same size and length. I think the numbers correspond to different lofts. When I removed the original knots I did notice the the #4 was 5mm deeper than #3 when I hit metal on my bottom where the knot sits.
