As a zoologist, I have an open mind towards undiscovered species, and I am sure that some of the sasquatch sightings were people seeing something. That being said, I highly doubt that there is any undiscovered primate species of any size living in North America at this point, much less some Gigantopithicus or suchlike.....simply not enough real evidence.
There is a far better argument to be made for SOME of the 'lake monster' stories....for instance, I believe that Ogopogo is most likely a smallish population of large, lake sturgeon, misjudged in size, and misidentified....nothing so fantastic, and they fit the details on 80% of the sightings.
