Default Rooney 1/1 Best Badger vs Simpson Duke 1 Best Badger

I have been a member for almost a year now, I joined in February 2010. I have learned so much from all of you and have enjoyed purchases from B&B member vendors. I have saved my most expensive and difficult purchase for last, and have been reading lots of posts and reviews of brushes. I like to bowl lather creams, and soap lather in a traditional mug. My choice is narrowed down to two. The titled mentioned Rooney 1/1 and the Simpson Duke 1 both in Best Badger. Please help me choose, I think I will be happy with either one. I want to keep my purchase under $100.00 including shipping, and can not afford "both" as I am sure someone will suggest. I also through my reading have found out that many members like to go to a smaller knot after their experience with their previous brush purchases. I have no plans to face lather; I really like to lather in bowl or mug! I know there will be some here goes another Rooney vs. Simpson thread, but I have not seen a comparison through the B&B search of both brushes in Best Badger. Thank you in advance for your comments and suggestions!

The Duke is more of a soap brush in my opinion so I'd tend to lean towards the Rooney out of the two.

IMHO bowl and mug would change my preference to a Rooney 2 or 3/1. Those models give you more handle length. Not sure the equivalent in the Simpson line. PJ, Harvard, Colonel? My .02

If the handle is too short, you may find it awkward for bowl-lathering. Are you using a VdH boar now? I believe that's a 24-mm knot, but I can't find the handle or loft dimensions. If you measure yours, that will give you some idea of what dimensions to seek out in a new brush.

Thanks guys, I am going back to the drawing board on handle size. Your right about needing to be long enough to bowl or mug lather. I have been using the VDH Boar and the Shea Moisture Shave Black Badger (Target Store) brush. I may be considering a Simpson "57" or "Emperor" style handle. Just don't want the brush to be floppy or too big like the Target brush. I know that the Simpsons will be a much denser knot to beging with.

I have the Rooney 1-1 in silvertip. I use this brush exclusively for face lathering. However, if your bowl is not too deep I think that you can build a fine bowl lather with your creams.

The 57 is a fantastic brush. The handle is very solid and works great for bowl lathering. The knot is dense, but not overly so. It handles soaps and creams with ease, and is a great all around brush.
