    Thumbs up Strop dressing

Does anyone know the contents of strop dressing? Is it just lanolin, or does it have a magic ingredient made by leprechauns dancing around a fire lit under the blarney stone? I just bought an ancient and venerable Illinois strop on ebay & want to give it ne plus ultra TLC

Good question but I doubt anyone knows for sure other than fromm (Illinois) and they are not saying. it smells like Lexol but seem to have more solids in it as it is thicker and creamier. Dovo sells a fat based dressing too but no ide what's really in it.

I use either Lexol opr Neat's Foot Oil depending on the leather. Other use Mink Oil, etc...... I would avoid silicone based goop as it may make the strop too slippery.

Buy a good quality leather dressing and you are good to go.
