Default A question to the 7 o'clock yellow users

    Gentlemen,

for some time now I have used the 7 o'clock yellows almost exclusively. They're my perfect blade: the right balance between sharpness and smoothness. Also they are the perfect match for the Futur, my go to razor.
What is you opinion of its green and black (both Russian and Indian) cousins? Worth looking into if one loves the yellows?
    Any input is much appreciated!

I am also a big fan of the 7 O'Clock Yellows.
I have tried all of the other 7 O'Clock blades and the ones that worked well for me were the Black Super Platinum (Indian), Blue Super Platinum (Russian), and Green Permansharp (Indian).
The Green Super Stainless (Russian) did not work well for me. I felt some pulling when I used them but I will go back and give them another try soon.

I personally love the blacks. They are much smoother than the yellows. The consensus is that they yellows are sharper. I don't think they are sharper, I think they just feel sharper.

People will disagree with me about this, but I think when using an adjustable smoothness is more important than sharpness. Your ability to adjust blade gap helps offset some of the decrease in the sharpness of the blade.

Conclusion: better blades than yellows and well worth tracking down before stocking up on yellows.

I too love the Yellows and have a supply in.

I just recently have been shaving w/ the Blacks and my initial impression is that the Black is smoother than the yellow as a result of its coating-for me.

This is because my face repsonds extremely well to the coated blades vs. the uncoated ones. Would I choose the Blacks over the Yellows?-not yet due to the Yellows being more reasonable in price.

I could use either as my only blade and would be very happy with the resulting shaves.

I like the Yellows. They are top-tier on my home world. I used Greens from Russia and India. Satisfactory, equal to each other, but not as good as Yellows for me. Worth looking into to settle the matter for yourself.

As far as how they will work in your Futur, only you will know if they are for you. Can't stress strongly enough that the only judge for you is you. My trash blade might be your treasure. We can recommend a given blade as being relatively sharper than any other, but smoothness is a unique experience. It's part of the fun of the trip to try out what you will.

    Enjoy it!

I`m a fan of the blacks, but I can hardly tell the difference between them and the Indian Wilkinsons that are made in the same Gillette factory. The Wilkinsons can be had for about $11 per 100 shipped, while the blacks, even ordered from India, are about $40 per 100 shipped.

Thank you, that is very generous of you and shows the great spirit here.
But I'll just order a pack of each with my next bulk order of yellows. Heck, you can never have too many blades!

The blacks are my favorite blade. I like them better than both Feathers and Irridiums. And they are pricey.

I used to use yellows with my Futur before I switched to Iridiums. The blacks also worked great although I preferred the yellows however I did not get any good shaves out of the greens in the Futur.

I have not tried all the various 7 o clocks, only green and yellow... but recently i have preferred the yellows to feathers which were my go to blade for some time, they are slightly less sharp but i tend to get more shaves out of them.

In my experience, all of the Gillette branded blade blades are worth trying. I regularly use the following:

    7 O'Clock Sharp Edge
    7 O'Clock Permasharp
7 O'Clock Super Platinum (Russian and Indian)
    7 O'Clock Super Stainless
    Platinum
    Super Thin
    Super Thin Platinum
    365 Stainless
    Bleue Extra
    Nacet Platinum

    Default smooth and sharp

The yellows are my favorite blade. They were actually the first DE blade I ever tried when I got my original blade sampler pack, and I've never found anything else that passes them. The Bleue Extras are very close, but I do not like the other 7 o'clocks as well. I found the super platinums(both russian and indian) to be harsher, and the green super stainless did not last as long.
The yellows and bleue extras to me are sharper, smoother, and last longer than any other blade. I am getting 7-8 shaves from each.

The yellows are good - they agree with my face. But for some reason the Blacks irritate me badly.

Well, I ordered a pack each of the Blacks (Indian) and Greens. If I should like any of them, tha'll leave me with 5 Blades that I'll have to buy in bulk
