Better shave with 2 days of growth?

I seem to always get a closer and more confortable shave after I skip a day. Is this normal or is it just because I am a newbie?

I get the best shave after three day growth. It needs time for all the stubbles to expose above the skin for the blade.

It's normal. When I was using the disposables and cartridges, I wouldn't shave on weekends to give my face a break. I really hoped for a good shave on Monday because if not my face felt like scorched earth the rest of the week. I would use Avon Moisture Cream instead of aftershave to speed up the healing.

The reason I switched to DE razors and straights is that they aren't as hard on my face (after I learned how). Still, if I'm not going anywhere on the weekend I'll shave once on Saturday evening.

Same here. I shave Sunday mornings, Monday nights, Wednesday nights, and Friday nights. If I shave everyday, I end up with irritation.

I shave every other day. Much smoother with a day in between.

Nothing like a nice gentle shave with a Tech or similarly mild razor after a few days' growth. Smooth and irritation free.

A lot of the guys with lighter beards on here feel the same way, I think. Probably something to do with the fact that more growth holds the blade away from the skin for the first pass or two.

I can only speak for my face, but in my case- yes it is normal. Even though I am getting super smooth, irritation free shaves these days, my face appreciates a day off.

since switching to DE shaving I can shave everyday rather then once a week with my old mach3/fusion but have to admit that shaving after a days break seems to give me better results and means my blades will last twice as long

Totally normal. I find it much easier to get a BBS shave after two days growth. I rarely get to experience shaving two days of growth, though, because I enjoy shaving every day so much!

I haven't tried a DE, but if I don't wait a few days at least between shaves with my Mach3, my face feels rather raw after a 3 or 4 pass shave.

yea, i think the people who save everyday, do a 1 pass. and also do it becuase it is really enjoyable (me time).
but i personally save every 2-3 days.

I do the every other day shave myself as well. I also look forward to my shaves even more. It is like a treat for my soul or something...

Thanks guys. I feel like a light bulb just turned on. I started DE shaving the day after Christmas and only skipped 2 days since. The first time I thought maybe it was just my technique was getting better. This week I was sick and skipped a day because of that. I had the best shave I have ever had and it was close enough that I had very little stubble this morning. I did shave anyway today and had some irritation. I guess I just like to keep trying to get better at my technique and try things I have learned here. The new thing I learned is to shave ever other day after the shave this morning.

My FACE has no problem with every day. My NECK... would prefer a day off. But my Face usually wins the argument.

If i shave every other day I will look like a bum. I can shave every day and if needed twice a day and get good shaves.

Well I remember back when I was in the Army guys would avoid shaving on the weekends all the time and for myself when I went on leave I wouldn't shave at all. One time almost a month.

Every other day always gives me a super BBS shave. Every day shaving always seems to have more stubble in the evening. I mix it up quite a bit depending on the situation.
