Difference between aftershave balm and gel?

While waiting for my first aftershave splash to arrive in the mail, I thought 'd experiment with an old container of Body Shop aftershave gel.

I'm finding the alcohol-free balms I have to be to slimy, and I think this gel might have some alcohol in it. It seemed to have a tightening effect and my skin feels smooth but not especially slimy or shiny.

I've seen several companies produce aftershave gels. Am I correct to assume that they are hybrids between balms and splashes?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of them?

The AS blams can contain alcohol. The blams usually have more moisturizing agents in them for your skin. I would leave the gels closer to the balms than splashs.

There are no real advantages/disavantages, what you need to look up is your type of skin to find the right product. I.e. a dry skin would probably have better results with a balm where a greasy/normal skin might have better results with a splash...
