    Default "Earthy" creams

I've found I really like the earthy scents in creams and soaps that I've been using. And by Earthy, I don't mean sandalwood, but more like the Patchouli, Rosemary or Calendula scents.

The best smelling Patchouli scent I've found (IMO) is from KMF. And I honestly don't know if this is a "true" patchouli (e.g. straight patchouli or a blend of scents) but I do know that I've tried some supposed patchouli soaps made w/FO instead of EO and they weren't up to par. So far, I haven't found any patchouli product that smells better/earthier than KMF.

I definitely get a distinct Rosemary note in NB, can only slightly smell the peppermint, and honestly can't smell the lavender. Though I love lavender and can smell it vividly in T&H UC and obviously in the stronger lavender specific creams (I've only experienced TOBS so far). And I absolutely love my MB clear skies soap, though the blends must be slightly different b/c I smell peppermint the strongest, rosemary second, and barely any lavender in this soap.

And Calendula is the newest scent I've found that I personally think falls in this earthy category. The only calendula shaving cream I've experienced is Toms of Maine. The scent is good in the tube, but I can't really smell it once it's been whipped into a cream. I got turned onto this scent when I found some Toms of Maine Calendula deodarant. The deo has a slightly stronger scent than their shaving cream, but sadly something in the deo makes my skin turn red. Though I know it's not the calendula b/c the shaving cream gives me no problem.

So, after thinking about this I have two questions.

    1) Would a combo of rosemary/calendula/patchouli smell good in a cream or soap? and;
    2) Are there any other "earthy" scents that I don't know about?

Now I know the first scent besides these that people will think is earthy will likely be sandalwood. But IMO sandalwood doesn't belong in this category. Mainly because based on the sandalwood products I've tried, there seems to be a very broad spectrum of sandalwood variations. While IMO and what I've experienced so far the three scents I'm considering earthy are very distinct. Maybe it's just my lack of usage of other products w/these scents, but I currently have 3 different sandalwood creams and 2 different soaps and unless their made by the same company, they all tend to have very different scents. But if I find something rosemary, I know it's rosemary and the same for the other scents.

So, what does everyone think? Would this scent combo be good, and are there any other "earthy" scents I haven't tried?

    VETIVER! YES.

You should try, if you like soaps, the QED Vetiver. It is EARTHY!

For creams, there is only Salter, as far as I know. Which is distinctive in it's own right. Much smokier than the QED soap. But still very earthy for sure.

Speick perhaps? (No wait, I answer that to any cream question... )

Seriously, I could see why Speick has a herbal 'earth' scent.

SCS Sue (saintcharlesshave.com) offers an Oakmoss-lavendula and a Vetiver (called "Very V") that are quite earthy. Altho, the oakmoss has a nice "splash" of lavender so it isn't too over the top earthy.

Update: I just read in another thread that SCS Fairway is also earthy.

Andrew, didn't that "soap" you sent me have an "earthy" smell to it? It was over a year ago, if you recall.

Oh, for a less dirty, intense earthy, definitely try Honeybee Oak Moss. It is a fantastic mossy earthy green scent. Not a love or hate thing, like vetiver. More just varying degrees of love. I can't imagine anyone not liking it. Top 5 scent in all of shaving for me. Based on the other things you like, DEFINITELY try this.

Also, the Olivia Oak moss (eichenmoos). Less green than the HBS, but also great.

+3 on both of these SCS shaving creams! What's more, each has a matching (scent and name) EDT; although, they really fall within the category of Cologne, judging by how long the scent lasts on me (a good 5-6 hours, which includes 90-minutes of cardio at the gym!) -- but on that score, YMMV.

I love 'em! In fact, I shaved with the Very V twins just this morning!

    Smooth shaving!

PS: If you're ever considering a lime-scented EDT/Cologne, why not try SCS's Bay Rum with a Twist? The B&B Cologne reviews gave it an across-the-board

I agree with the recomendations of Salters and QED Vetiver. Nothing says "Earthy" like these scents.

I've tried Florena a few times (and it's a cream, so you may only want a soap) but it has a scent that I just can't place but some people with more experience of it than I may think of it as earthy ... but it's inexpensive and good, so may be worth a try anyhow!!
