Looks like some kind of Arkansas stone for knives?

The box looks like the boxes that thuringians are sometimes in, so that would be my guess, but it looks maybe too wide to be one.
It is an old grey rock. It is also a live ebay auction, so is outside the proper rules to link to.
I appreciate your attempts to keep things in order but I have not posted a live auction. Do you have anything constructive to add?
There's a big grey banner in the corner of the picture that says "ended", as in the auction.![]()
I was wrong. Sorry.
its a rather large stone and it does look like it is old. Stones like this were sometimes used to sharpen draw knives or other farming implements. as for what the stone is made of is almost impossible to say because the stone is so dirty. My guess though is that its and old Arkansas hard stone.

What sucks is there is a ton of these old Ark type oil stones on Ebay still in their wooden cases. I think I may have bought three or four of them in the past two years and they are all useless for razor honing.
the CF craze has caused us to buy many of these mystery box hones.

To me it looks like an india oilstone, looks orange/red, but the pics are not great, so I'm probably wrong.
John, Cartridge free for 2 years.
You can't really go by pic colors. I have stones that are nothing like the sellers pics. Thank god too!
Looks like a synthetic oil stone. Maybe an india oilstone or carborundum or possibly some oil covered ark.
