    Question Jumping razor

Hello gentlemen! I am using a Merkur HD, with various blades. I have tried a soap and cream, with good lather. However, my blade jumps a bit along the jaw line( east to west ). Any thoughts? I know my angle is pretty good though, and it only occurs in that direction, only along the jaw ( second pass ). Thanks guys!

My first thought is that you are not shaving in the right direction...

If you are going ATG when you expect going WTG, it can do that. You might need to face map the direction of the grain.

Assuming that the blade is seated properly, a blade may act jumpy if it is too dull, or if the razor angle is too flat, and it is just dragging across your stubble. The effect will be more exaggerated if the first pass also was done at too shallow an angle. Let us know the answer when you find it, and good luck!

I will have a closer look when I get some growth. Maybe the hair grows towards the ear in that spot. I honestly did not look. Thanks!

I cannot say my angle is perfect, but I will pay more attention in that area. Thanks!

You should be able to feel the difference while rubbing your hand in every direction.

Another possibility is that the lather is a little dry.

Default Thanks for the good advice

I think all of you are right. How do you know when your lather is ready? I don't have the experience to know when that soap or cream is at its best.

http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Lather has some good tips and links to tutorials. One guideline is that the lather should stick to the sides of the bowl, or to your hand. You shouldn't be able to sweep a surface clean with your brush.

Thanks for the help guys! I was going ATG without being aware of it. Cartridge shaving has left me with bad habits. I have much more to learn, but I am getting a decent shave now.

It's easy for that to happen. If I shave from ear to chin, on one side of my face it's WTG and ATG on the other.
