    Default Newbie with Questions

Thanks to all of you, my fiancé bought me a EJ DE89L for Christmas. I've been shaving for 25 years with a cartridge razor and started using a brush and soap last year. This morning I had my first DE shave and loved it. Thanks for all the advice you gave her!

I've been lurking around the site for about a month and have learned enough that I did quite well with my first shave. But I've got a couple of questions that I hope you can answer for me:

    1) how many shaves should I try to get out of each razor?

    2) I noticed that the Derby blades are numbered 1 and 2 on one side and 3 and 4 on the other side. Why?

    3) after I shave, should I disassemble my razor and rinse and dry everything or is it enough to just give it a good rinsing, shake it off, and hang it on the rack?

    4) what experience have any of had taking a DE in a carryon bag on an airplane?

Thanks for your help and advice.

    Hello,

Welcome, and have fun with that beautiful razor.

    As for your questions:
    1) how many shaves should I try to get out of each razor?
    A lot. Really a lot
As for the blades any number between 1 and 15seems to be reasonable.
    YMMV.

    2) I noticed that the Derby blades are numbered 1 and 2 on one side and 3 and 4 on the other side. Why?
I think this has been answered on the forum?
Maybe some welcoming you does remember where and when

    3) after I shave, should I disassemble my razor and rinse and dry everything or is it enough to just give it a good rinsing, shake it off, and hang it on the rack?
Both can do, depending on how damp and moist your place of shaving is.
I rinse, shake, turn loose and let dry.

    4) what experience have any of had taking a DE in a carryon bag on an airplane?
I suspect the De itself is no problem, the blades are.
In the wiki there is an excellent entry on this topic.

Enjoy the experience, and looking forward to your posts!
    Wim

    Have a nice day!

Tons and tons out of the razor. Now the blade is a different story. That would be anywhere from 2-who knows. The average seems to be around 4 but of course YMMV. Typically, I get two good shaves out of a blade and my hubbie gets 2-4.

The numbers are for manufacturing purposes. They mean nothing to us. This thread explains it.

I just give mine a good rinse towel dry and set it on its side to dry. I only disassemble it when changing the blade. At that time I will give it a good cleaning.

The DE is fine in a carry on. You cannot take blades on a carry on, however, and will need to buy those when you arrive or put them in checked luggage.

The only other information that I would add would be RE question 4) Airplanes
