A Christmas Story is a classic. For a more adult themed movie my favorite is Bad Santa.

I think it boils down to age groups, having kids and marketing. I was 12 When the Christmas Story came out and was instantly hooked to the tune of 4 showings that year (dad was no happy). It is now my goto movie for most of my friends and their kids. So with those parents spending the money, advertisers want programming that is most likely o be watched by a broad audience.

Now with with my generations kids starting to have kids, I am sure A Christmas Story is now slowly taking a backseat movie to whatever movie the Mid 90's kids were enthralled with.

I personally could never get into it's a wonderful life (or White Christmas for that matter).

So what is your favorite line or scene in the movie ????

My cousins and I sporadically watch A Christmas Story throughout the 24 hour marathon. It is my all time favorite Christmas movie!

My favorite scene is hard to pick, as there are so many scenes with very subtle humor. If I had to pick two:

Scene where Santa Claus tells Ralphie, "You'll shoot yer eye out kid. Ho ho hoooo..." and taps him in the forehead with his foot! Pure comedic genius!

Scene in which Randy is dressed in numerous layers of clothing and falls on the sidewalk and starts screaming, "I can't get up. I can't get up! Ralphie! I can't get up!"

Yes, greatest Christmas movie of all time. One of my favourite movies, period!

Of course, everyone knows the best quote form the movie is:

Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window.

With respect to the "anachronisms" listed in the "GOOFS" link ...

I like to think they are a matter of the grown-up narrator's slightly muddled memory of childhood events.

Makes me feel better!

Although the movie was supposed to take place in the mid-to-late forties, it sure was reminiscent of the early-to-mid fifties I remember when I was that age. Maybe this is because because many of my early Christmases were spent at my grandmother's house where everything was a few decades older. Also we did have a coal furnace.

This picture is of me and my mom at my grandma's house, 1947 or 1948 I guess -- a bit before my memory kicks in.

I have to agree. Not only is it a great Christmas movie, it is a great movie, period. It certainly makes my list of favorite movies ever. There are about a dozen movies that, despite having seen them multiple times, I will watch the entire movie again given the chance.

So what is your favorite line or scene in the movie ????

That movie was filmed in Cleveland (while I still lived there). The parade is on Public Square (you can see the Soldiers and Sailor Monument in the background). There is a nice shot of the Terminal Tower, and Higbees is where the the Santa scene took place. They did a good job of disguising the modern escalators that were in the front of the store. The wooden ones that were shown were from the rear entrance of the store.
