    Default Saying hello and asking some questions.

    Hello all, I'm a 18 year old guy from the Netherlands. I hate shaving, I use a razor blade now but always I see hairs sticking out that I forget or take. Not to say that it's annoying being limited to a cord. So I thought of geting a gilette mach 3. But I went researching and I found this cool place.

    Now I got some stuff covered, but my questions are. I do have bearth growth and the sides a bit, not a lot the sides. But beards and mustasche grow is there. So is it wise to already start with using the Badger and blade techniques ?

    I found a Merkur classic 23C
    All blades they got are these, double edge, Derby. Are those good ?

    Also I'd like some tips on what I need now. I know I need a brush since I'm a bit budgeted I will buy a cheap one for now. But anyone could tell me how it went when they first started doing some stuff. Or point me out some stickies with maybe good information ?

    Never too early to go with a brush, DE, and soap/cream! Welcome! Your Merkur will work out great, and the Derby blades will be fine for now, thought they are not my personal favorites. My tip would be to buy a good boar brush instead of a cheap badger...generally, "Pure" badger brushes will be very scratchy on your face. That was my first mistake.

    Derby can be good or not for you. I would recommend buying 1 pack of Derby only to try them, if you like them, that's good, if not, you only have 4 blades left. A razor blade sample pack is the way to go.

    Welcome to the site and Merry Christmas. You might be able to make a good start with just your wife or mom's soap and making lather with your hands. Don't let the need for all the equipment slow you down. There's plenty to learn and to read here, so that is the place to start. DE shaving works with any kind of beard. You'll make your first shaves more tolerable if you remember two words: No Pressure!

    Derby blades work well for me, but a blade sampler is a good investment. In your neighborhood, http://shaving.ie/ might be a good place to find one.

    Maybe for a brush a Semogue 1305 from Vintagescent.com?
    Those are not expensive and ship cheaply to the Netherlands!
    While you are there consider a cream.

    Still need soap? Your local C1000 probably has Palmolive for 1,75 euro. Good one.
    QCS (see mretzloffs post above) had a nice soapy ream or creamy soap also.

    As for hard soaps, shipping from the UK is easy.
    And so is Dutch Barbershop classics and Tutto Italia.

    Welcome to B&B. I agree with others on getting a blade sampler pack from one of the fine vendors here. I have found that some blades work for me and others do not so take you time and have fun experimenting. You will find the right combination that works for you.
