Default ...... an issue with a freind

ok, so i was at a friends house yesterday, and, while playing a video game i noticed that he had very long hair on his face. (i blame you guys for my even looking) then i asked him how long it had been scence he had shaved...when he said over a month i had a coniption fit. (right word and spelling?) i drug him into his bathroom (big dude... 260lb not easy for a lil 160lb guy like myself) then proceded to ask him how his shaves were and what his "routine" is... his shave, was fair. accepting his under chin area. were he wouldn't get hair removal at all. he removes no hair what so ever. his "routine" is: single pass N to S on face, then single pas S to N on his neck and no aftershave period... then he proceded to empliment his "routine" and here we go: he wet his face (not bad so far) then took his edge gel and put some on his had. then, without lathering it, applied it to his face and all over the shirt, which he had neglected to remove. i stopped him, at this point, and told him to restart... and to our luck... he was out of gel... ugh... what am i going to do? i was tempted to run home, grab a puck of VDH my Merkur HD a few blades (very limited atm ) my VDH brush and throw them at him... (maybe i'll give him a christmas present?) ugh... what to do? what to do?

Keep trying to help him if you can. It sounds like he's willing to learn. You'll certainly help him have a more professional appearance and it could be good for his love life as well.

yea... professinal apperance isn't as important to him (being 16 an not actually caring and while i am 15, i am in AFJROTC so i need a nice clean shave lol) however, his love life could..... use a little boost... i certainly hope he's willing to learn, for him, shaving is a very painful, chore that he won't do until his mother tells him that he needs to...

+1. While it's great that you are helping him, he probably won't keep it up unless its something he really wants to do. If he shows interest, by all means attempt to teach him all you can. If you force it on him he'll probably just get frustrated and stop after a little bit.

Personaly, this sounds like a mind your own business moment. I can assure you that any "friend" who began to coach me on my behavior or habits without being asked would be rudely shown the quickest way out.

Some people just need a little push to get started. I know of one teenager on this site who dreaded the thought of DE shaving because, in brief, he feared the unknown. Now after about 6 months he has become an expert and has converted many of his friends to DE shaving.

As long as he shows some interest and no resistance, I would keep at it. He will thank you in the long run.

he definately wants a better shave, i've known him long enough (about 12 yrs...) to know that. but he also doesn't want to go through the hastle of trying, so, i now need to figure out if the reason he isn't willin to try is because it isn't enjoyable? or if it's just shaving in general has no interest for him. right?

Tyler, is the hassle of trying or is he afraid he won't be able to do it? Some individuals never try something new because they are afraid of failure. Just encourage him and show him some of the information on this site.

It sounded like the guy was open to learning to me. I mean he could have absolutely refused to show you his routine.

Anyway, I think the best plan would be to let him see how you shave if he's over at your house or something.

You may not be able to get him to use a DE, but you could perhaps turn him on to BIC sensitive disposables, and Barbasol canned shaving cream as a start.

that sounds like a good idea, bcatl. and actually, ackville, you're probably right. he's always been afraid offailure, because when we were in 1-5th grade he was teased a lot for being.... large... and he was teased even more because he couldn't somethings, even though he tried his best...

Just for the record, Edge Gel doesn't lather - it's meant to be smeared directly on the face 'as is' - so he was using the product properly.

Consider yourself lucky to have found this site so young, that's exactly how most of us shaved until well into our 20s/30s/40s or more!
