I have 2 P22s(Mine 3" & Wifes 5") and love them. I was among the first and went through the teething problems, they are among the funnest little 22s you'll find IMO. I have looked at the PPS and it looks nice but I already have a Kahr P9 and so no real need for the PPS. They really are two entirely different animals. One is a large caliber carry peice and the other is a fun plinker. My recommendation is to get both! Oh and if you really like the P22 and are looking for a carry peice you might consider the PK380 altho its a tad large for a 380 nowadays!

I think Walther is a great gun, although I have never fired their 22 I do own the PK 380 for carry and it is a little large but shoots very nice and my wife likes it as well.

    +1!

Heck yeah! Go with the threaded, extended barrel version just in case you ever decide to go for a suppressor!

After going through my concealed-carry class I took on some additional training with my CCW instructor. I was extremely fortunate to fire several hundred rounds through his P22 with a noise suppressor as part of my target acquisition/trigger control instruction.

Sounded exactly like I was cycling the action and dry firing.....except that I wasn't. I was doing live fire.

To give another perspective: It sort of sounded and felt as though I was cycling the action, dry firing and then spitting out the pit of a Medjhul date all within a millisecond. Add to that a very mild and pleasant .22 caliber recoil. That ought to give you an idea of what it was like.

Usually, the tactile and auditory sensation of actually FEELING the cycling of the action and firing pin release is lost in the experience of recoil and muzzle blast. Not so in this case.

Since this is a shaving forum, I feel that I must make a shaving comparison. Firing a suppressed P22 is sort of like experiencing the sound and sensation of using a straight razor or SE razor against whiskers. The person doing the shaving can actually hear and feel those whiskers being cut, but someone standing in the other side of the house, or even a few feet away, might not.

I think you know what I mean.

    Loads of fun! Awesome....simply awesome!

    Regards,

    David

I've been looking at the PPS for a long time...sooner or later I'm going to pull the trigger (pun intended).

My father in law has the PPS in 9mm. It's a nice gun, very reliable and accurate. However, I don't particularly like it. The mag release is a lever that is part of the trigger guard so it is difficult, if not impossible, to release the mag 1 handed. Speaking of mags, they were extremely hard to come by when he bought the gun. He had to order them direct from walther (or S&W, I don't remember) and wait months for a couple of spares. That may have changed by now, but make sure to at least ask before you buy. The mags were quite pricey too. I also don't like the trigger pull on the gun.

That being said, it is sized perfectly for a carry weapon in my opinion, it is very reliable, and it doesn't look half bad either. And as I mentioned it is reliable and accurate. Just not my cup of tea.

I have the Walther P22 and the Sig Mosquito .22, both are fun but the Sig is a little more full size gun feel. If you have big hands the P22 is the way to go. I also have a Sig P6. and a 226 in 40 caliber which the mosquito grip is good practice when not wanting to spend a lot in ammo using the 40 cal. Both are great guns but the Mosquito is something you might also want to put your hands on. Or simply get a 1911 with a .22lr conversion kit.

I have a P22 and a PPS in 9mm. The P22 is pretty good and similar in operation, so it makes a cheap practice gun. The PPS has become one of my favorite pistols. It is perfect for CC, reliable and accurate. I ordered a rubber grip sleeve that made it fit my hand even better. I've got the 6rd and 8rd mags, and so far I think the 7rd would be a perfect fit for my hand. Like others have said, its ergonomics are different from other handguns, so it does take some practice to get used to. One other quirk is that if you don't release the trigger fully after firing, it will fail to fire on the next round. Again, practice makes perfect. I use an IWB High Noon holster for CC, and it fits me perfectly.

I used to carry a PPK as a backup weapon. If you get one you need to be aware they have a reputation for jamming. You need to make sure the ammo is in just about perfect shape to avoid the problem

    One's a plinker, one's a carry gun.

The mag release on the PPS was done intentionally for 2 handed reloading so you don't ditch the mag in pocket carry (which is why Euro handguns of the smaller crowd, which were generally pocket-carried pre-1980s have heel mag releases).

If you need to reload the PPS in a hurry, you use both hands....period.

I like it for what it is.

First I would ask what the purpose of the gun would be. Is it just for fun or is it for self-defense? Then you go from there. I have two guns that I will carry, Kel-tec p32 and the Bersa Thunder 380, depending on what I'm doing. Comes down to what you want.

For self defense, my choice would be a Glock, hard to beat a G-26.

Santa needs to know what you'll be using it for. Targets? CCW? Home defense?
