    Thumbs up Finally

I've been str8 shaving for a bit better than 3 months and have never had a really great shave on the sides of my neck. I can get the middle, adams apple area, but not the sides due to the growth pattern. The hair grows outwards making it hard to get against the grain.

Today I tried something different. I kept the pivot still while moving the toe in a circular motion, scything? Well this seemed a bit unnatural but I took my time and finished. To my suprise I finally got a really great shave in these problem areas.

Sure feels good to, for once, get an all around great shave.

Absolutely! This gives me some hope as my neck is pretty tough to shave since I have two areas where the hair swirls. Thanks for sharing

Congrats, man. I love those kind of technique breakthroughs, especially with straights. Keep it up!

Congrats! I have a thing where I sort of hold the razor in my left hand and rotate my wrist downwards to go ATG on my neck (the hair grows from left to right there.) It's a bit tricky but it works.

I would call it J-Hooking, I have to do that around the jawline, it's more efficient that way!

Yep, I have to do that to get the swirly hair that grows next to my Adam's Apple.

I seem to have the same growth pattern as you and I do that kind of move too and yesterday I tried something which also seems to work but it will take some getting used to: I applied the razor to the area I wanted to shave with the blade perpendicular to the jawbone, then I tipped my head back as far as it would go so that I could admire the ceiling and then shaved the area. This seemed to be effective but I will have to try it again to confirm its effectiveness. The only problem is that you cannot see a darn thing while you are doing it.

I may need to try that Gustav, it seems to really stretch the skin nice and present whiskers for cutting.

That is exactly what I call scything. Congratulations. You have found your roadmap.

Congratulations A great feeling hey, same thing here> what I found worked well was after the first stroke (adams Apple to chin) I really turn my head as far as I can and look slightly up, it really lifts that area and allows a more diagonal stroke.

It's a good technique. I often use it for the ATG on my cheeks above the jawline.
