I've only recenlty gotten into pipes (still prefer cigars), but pipes are nicer for indoor smoking. Anyhow, the cw I ordered is a no-name, but I was intrigued by the design.

I've only recently found out that you are a cigar smoker. I've toyed with pipes for a little over a year now and never got real serious (I have over a thousand cigars). So the Mrs. Dustinl buys me this pipe for Christmas and I feel my AD blood pressure hitting the roof. Now I am all over pipe vendor sites checking them out. Not to mention the pipe funiture, lighters, and custom tampers. Custom (dang I can't believe I just said that). Custom pipes. I am doomed.

Dustin I was in the same situation as you, I had even forgot that I had my two pipes but 2 years ago I decided I was going to figure out how to smoke them the right way and i've never looked back. I still have a humi and cooler full of cigars but I haven't bought a cigar in over a year, and now I have over 15 pounds of tobacco. It's quite a slope.

Welcome to my world, if you think RAD can be bad, PAD can be even worse. They all look so nice, there are so many makers, so many shapes, so many finishes, and they all need nice homes. I have declared that anyone buying a gift for me buys a pipe, I don't care what it is. If I have it, I'll find a reason to love it.

LOL, the ADs hit hard, don't they? But, to say that I'm a smoker period might be a little stretch. I have a few stogies around and some pipe tobacco (now) and every now and again, I get the urge to light up. Maybe once a month or so. But, I've been having more lately now that I'm attempting to rediscover pipes. (My grandfather smoked half and half and I fondly remember the smell, however, I find it unsmokable). In any case, I have yet to hit on either the must have cigar (he also smoked white owls...ick) or the must have pipe. Maybe my smoking frequnecy will change then. But, I also try to live fairly healthily and keep the smoking to more of a "social" frequency... at least for now.

This morning I found a ziploc bag that had about 3 bowls worth of Barbary Coast in it. The tobacco was pretty dry but I smoked it anyway. The aroma was the most interesting part of this, to me it smelled exactly like the tobacco and cedar smell of a walk-in humidor.

Is that normal for that tobacco or a product of having dried out?

I don't even know where this tobacco came from or how long I've had it in that baggie, so I can't comment on what it smells like in the tin.

    Google says it's a G.L. Pease

Definitely a G.L. Pease blend but that's not how Barbary Coast smells to me, more of a brandy smell out of the tin. I've got a fairly fresh tin open so I'll take a bowls worth and let it dry out a lot.

Well, the churchwarden is presently fired up with some no-name (but good) maple tobacco I got in Puerto Rico (Cigar House at the Doll House in Old San Juan). The longer stem does take a bit of getting used to, but I'm liking the smaller bit and the cooler smoke. I think I need a long gray beard tho.
