Default For those of you that have a Gillette "NEW"

I like the way they look and I hear they are great shavers.

I've seen pictures of them apart and it looks pretty cool how the handle comes apart, etc.

One of the things I like in the pics is the handle looks kind of hefty and solid.

Just wondering, does the handle feel solid?

I have an 'OLD' style razor with the famous cracked handle. Even if it wasn't cracked, I don't think I would like it because it is hollow.

So really I just want to know, does the handle have some weight to it or is it more of a hollow feeling handle?

I can try and post a pic of someone else's razor if this isn't making sense.

    Thanks!

I've a British New #88 set and it's a great shaver. Doesn't feel particularly hefty though and the handle is indeed hollow. Mr Razor says it weighs in at 59 grams.

The ball-end NEWs have an identical handle to the Old Type. The bar-handle NEWs weigh less than the ball-end version.

Regardless of the type of handle, the NEW is not a hefty razor. And it doesn't have to be.
It shaves like there is no tomorrow anyway. A great, great razor!

If you want a heavier open comb Gillete, try a New Standard.

I filled the handle with thin solder wire...packed it in with a bit of coathanger wire. Added a nice amount of weight.

Get you a handle from Coon Cat Bob. They are hefty.

You can use it with your Old Type head and NEW type head.

    See what you like best.

Thanks for all the info guys.

james7604, the one you listed in this post looks like the ones I've been looking at.

I'll have to check out what the new standards are.

    THANKS!!!

I own 5 of Bob's razor handles and he can set you up with a re-plated NEW head as well.

I think a NEW De Luxe is a pretty hefty razor:

77g according to mr-razor.com and the handle is very solid feeling.
