Grind vs Hollow

Quick noobie question:

Grind and hollow... do these terms mean the same thing? When someone says 1/4 grind, is that the same as 1/4 hollow, or does it mean the opposite (as in, would a 1/4 grind be a 3/4 hollow)?

The amount of hollowness is how much metal is ground away creating a thinner blade.

I've stolen this image from another forum, but it explains exactly:

Thanks for the image... but my question is about the terms grind and hollow. I'm assuming from your description that a 1/4 grind means the same thing as 1/4 hollow?... but I want to make sure as I have been shopping for knives recently and I want to make sure I understand the terms.

The easiest way is to remember that the term "hollow" is a way of describing what the grind of a particular razor is. ie the grind is a 1/2 hollow.
