I'm happy to say West Coast Shaving is now an authorized retailer of the Portland General Store products. We started with the most shaving related, but will bring in the rest of the line soon.

Very interesting scents. Is the Tobacco scent more tobacco leaf or tobacco flower (like Alt Innsbruck)? These sound very unique...congratulations on the new line.

somebody review that tobacco please, it sounds delish!
inkwell
I've been wanting to try their products forever. Now that they're at WCS, it just might finally be time to take the plunge.
Those are some really interesting products.I wonder how long it will be before I give in and order the tobacco soap.

The shaving creams, aftershaves and cedar body balm all look great and are priced affordably. But those EDT-strength fragrances!?!? If my math is correct (it's not always), that stuff works out to $170 per ounce!
At 15% fragrance oil, that stuff really borders on eau de parfum, and it's labeled quite rightly as a concentrated EdT. This level of potency is pretty rare in a male fragrance, and I imagine we'd only want to use a miniscule amount. If any! Maybe you just stand next to the open bottle for a minute or two....

I've owned and enjoyed true EdP versions of Boucheron Pour Homme and Jaipur Homme, and neither cost anywhere near $170 per ounce. It isn't the cost of the oils that's making the Portland fragrances so expensive.
Although I concede that the company is free to charge whatever it wants, and each of us is free to buy whatever we want, I feel justified in pointing out the ultra-high pricing. In my opinion, we consumers are better served by buying from vendors who put out high-quality products at reasonable-but-profitable prices. For a relevant example in this case, The Gentlemen's Quarter (closed temporarily) offers a concentrated tobacco fragrance, Cavendish Black, for about $30 per ounce. I have two bottles, and it's potent and great-smelling, in my opinion. Gets compliments every time!
None of this is meant to reflect poorly on West Coast Shaving, which provides top-notch service, selection and pricing, in my experience. Nor is it my intent to hijack this thread. However, this is a public forum for the exchange of ideas, is it not? Or is a thread here merely a free ad for the Portland products, and not a genuine forum?
Chances are I'll buy the Portland creams and aftershaves, but I won't throw good money at the Edts.
You are perfectly justified, and I'm totally WITH YOU ON THIS. I was going for a bit-o-humor rather than making a true effort to justify the pricing. I typically don't use any scent potency beyond after-shave/cologne, so I appreciate the heads-up from someone who knows the market, particularly on behalf of our wet-shaving group members who might otherwise stumble into a bad buy.
Besides, maybe John will prompt the manufacturer to explain themselves for us!![]()

How much for eggs and bacon?
For you? An Irisch Moos stick.
As to the question about the price of the edt, I'll pass along the question to Lisa, one of the proprietors of PGS. I believe the cost/oz is high partially because it's a small container. For instance, the next size up is 3x the size but only 2x the cost. I opted to go with the smaller size as it seemed people may be more likely to try it at a lower price point. Maybe I was wrong.
One last thing. We had an inventory snafu (my fault) and the site accidentally oversold on the Tobacco soap. More is on the way and we'll get every straightened out right away.
The stuff is amazing. Great smell, sort of medicinal. I didn't like it at first, now I love it. Absolutely love it.
The quality of the lather is first rate. I get amazing shaves, and my face feels great. It lasts a long time, too. I think that WCS has it for $2 less than the PGS etsy site.
Reviews of the Tobacco Splash are very positive.
This is a great day for wet shavers.![]()

Nice addition to the store John. I chuckled when I saw the picture, as that is exactly what I ordered from the Etsy site to try the products. The soap is really nice, and the Whiskey actually smells like whisley. I find the scent of the AS a little light and short lived, like it could use a little more EO, but, with Aloe as the first ingredient, it is among the most soothing AS that I own. Recommended.
I don't feel middle aged...
I've been wavering on buying this from their etsy store for months now. I think I'll go on the waiting list so I can get it from you.

Tobacco check ... whiskey check ... fire arms coming soon.
Have a great shave!
The problem with the etsy store is the PGS are slugs in getting their orders out. We B&B'ers demand immediate service, and she takes weeks to get her products out. That is the reason for most of her negative feedback (and there really aren't that many). And I think the soap is $2 less from John's site.
Remember in the olden days when Ronco and Ktel said you would get their products in 6 to 8 weeks? lol
Time for me to get on the waiting list for the Tobacco Splash.![]()
