Default Looking for a badger brush around $50

I've been using a pretty cheap boar brush since I started wet shaving, but now it's starting to shed pretty badly, losing two or three bristles every time I lather up my face. I'm looking to get a badger brush for the first time, preferably something under $50. The amount of brushes out there is pretty overwhelming, so I'm looking for some recommendations. Thanks!

There are several on sale at leesrazors.com that you could check out. Also lots at westcoastshaving.com

A couple of things to consider:

    1) If your budget is firm, you might consider getting a top-of-the line boar - it won't be any more than about $30. The difference between a good boar and a cheap one is amazing in terms of shave quality and minimal in terms of price.

    2) In badger there are lots of choice, but the Edwin Jagger Best Badger Brush in the Medium size gets a lot of love around here and there are number of Simpson's models in their Best hair that would be in your price range.

The Edwin Jagger looks like a good one, thanks. Any other opinions?

Personally, I think you can get a better boar for $20-30 than you can a badger for $50. Semogues or Omegas are rock solid choices.

As said, cheap boars aren't usually good. Good ones are.

If the one you have is shedding badly and it's fairly new, it's not a good one.

+1 on the EJ medium best badger. Great brush for the price.

You should also consider restoring a vintage brush with a nice knot from TGN. You could build a very nice brush for well within your budget.

TGN sells already made brushes that are a good deal.

I have not used one, but many members rave about the Penworks brushes.

How about the Simpson Berkeley? If you apply the code BANDB, it'll deliver under $50. I am more than happy with it.

I got myself a Vulfix Pure Badger brush for about 35 delivered. It's amazingly soft and I've had it nearly a year.
Before that, I used a cheap VDH brush until the knot fell out of the handle

What about one of the brushes from CVS or Walgreens?
They look to be the same brush with a different color handle.
I have used local beauty shop brushes, brushes from Sally beauty (chain) and they went bad in a matter of weeks. The CVS brush is sooo much nicer. Not sure what it is made of or by who or if it is any good compared to what everyone else uses, but compared to the other brushes I have tried, it is a dream, LOL
