Since I have been participating in the 2011 Shaving Purchase Sabbatical, I diverted elsewhere and pulled the trigger on the Classic 32 Oz. Melton Wool Naval Pea Coat 740 from Schott NYC. Hopefully, it will arrive within the next few days.
Cheers,
Bob

+1 ... this is what I remember about mine. Along with not providing much warmth, it was bulky and awkward and didn't allow for much movement.
Yeah, it made me look good ... but aside from that, it was pretty useless as a piece of clothing. I left it in my locker for the most part.

It's probably been said but I got a great pea coat from a navy surplus store for under $100
Yes we Cam
Jacket arrived yesterday. So far customer service is great regarding shipping.
The jacket is way too big for me so it has to go back. Also, I am surprised at how rough the hand is. I know it's wool but nevertheless, this jacket is stiff.
Does anyone know if the sterlingware peacoat has a hand
that is softer that the than the regular 32 oz. Melton wool?
Cheers,
Bob

I have my Navy issued Peacoat I got in bootcamp. I wouldn't say it is exactly fashionable. It does keep you somewhat warm though. I don't get cold easily though
I had the same problem.....usually 3x runs about a 50-52 with Schott a 56. While I was on my hunt I also bought one from Alpha Industries, it was pretty good a bit lighter, but still durable. If you look at them, check the 'net for coupons I got 10% off mine.
I am sorry I read this thread though, because now I have another one coming from Vintage Trends
Anybody in canada looking for a brand new Alpha jacket sized around 46-48?![]()

I have a Navy Issue peacoat in the closet I haven't used for 10 years. It still has the chevrons (stripes) on it. Might be time to break it out, remove the patch and put it on.

I've worn a pea coat for a few years both casually with t-shirts, sweaters, button ups, etc; as well as dressed up with a shirt, tie, and slacks. It can look great either way. I wouldn't recommended it as an overcoat for your suit though, it looks funny. Also, be sure to pop the collar for a dramatic, Dracula-like look, if appropriate.
If you live near a Navy base, or where there might be a lot of Navy retirees, check out local thrift stores. A peacoat isn't an item that gets a lot of wear anymore, and most of them are in almost new condition when a sailor leaves active duty.
Unlike military surplus stores, a lot of thrift stores have no concept of what a peacoat costs and will have them for really low prices. When I was still active duty and lived in Hampton, Va. I found a bridge coat for $7. I got it, even though my waistline complain when I put it on. Naturally I never got much use out of it and ended up giving it away.
Coat is in the mail on its way back to Schott.
I have been reconsidering and think that the Sterlingwear of Boston pea coat,
Navigator style is the way to go for me.
More size options at Sterlingwear than at SchottNYC.
Anyone own the Navigator coat from Sterlingwear of Boston?
Cheers,
Bob
