Default Can shaving cream be lathered directly to the face?

I'm just wondering if it can be done or not. I'm fairly new to wet shaving so any advice would be awesome. I normally use soap directly to the face. However, I'm taking off for 2 weeks, and facilities maybe limited(I'm in the Army), and was considering picking up a tube of proraso......

Absolutely. Just smear some on the brush or on your face and get to lathering.

Definitely. In a pinch even works without a brush: smear it on and get a lather going by rubbing/massaging your face.

I have to face lather creams with my chubby 3. It's too darn big for the bowl.

before joining this site, i used to face lather AOS in the shower and shaved with a fusion and had some great results. Can definitely be done. i used to smear it onto the brush and then get right to it.

Absolutely! That is unless it is a brushless cream. However and good cream worth the scratch will lather right up.

Get a tube of Cremo. The stuff is brushless, but good. All creams will lather up without a brush, but the results will never be the same as they would have been with a brush.

The best cream I've used for direct face lathering without a brush was the Body Shop's Maca Root cream, nice and slippery.

As far as face lathering with a brush, I think it's the way to lather.

+1. I use TBS Maca Root or The Real Shaving Co creams in the shower and finger lather if I'm in a hurry. But the brush is the way to go!

    Agreed on the Maca Root.

JM Frasers will also work directly on the face with or without bush.

That is the way I do it 90% of the time. I only bowl lather creams if I'm in the mood for a lather fest or I'm using a "hard" cream (Castle Forbes is an example).

90% of the time I face lather.

My favourite way is to leave my brush in a mug of boiling water, then shake off the water, then squeeze shaving cream from a tube into the centre of the hot bristles, then face/neck lather

I started to use Proraso/C.O. Bigelow in the tube a year or more before I even had a brush.

Soak brush in the sink or a mug while showering, then squeeze and shake out excess water from the brush, part the bristles roughly down the centre, squeeze some cream into the brush, roll the bristles around between your thumb and finger to spread the cream, dip bristle tips into warm water and lather, add more water as required.

    Works for me.
