Default Atomizer bottle : what material to buy -- plastic, glass, metal ?

    Atomizer bottles :

For pouring a twist top bottled cologne into an atomizer bottle for long term more convenient use ,

    (1) Over several months does storing the cologne in a plastic or metal atomizer bottle affect the aroma of the cologne compared to the original glass bottle ?

    (2) Please recommend some sources for atomizer bottles.
A bottle with a good sprayer ( defined as a very small amount of cologne emitted per spray in order to have some control over the total amount applied ) and a material which would not affect the aroma.
The national chain store Sally Beauty Supply has plastic atomizer bottles for about US$ 1.50 but I am not sure of the spray quality and using plastic for cologne.

I heard that glass is best because you can clean it with washing fluid and some small metal balls. With plastic the scents merge so you can't completely clean it.

I have often been referred to this site http://www.bing.com/search?q=accesso...=n&sk=&sc=1-24. Have not bought from them myself. Because of shipping, prices might be high to just order a few. Have seen some bottles at our Whole Foods, and I believe they also had a glass atomiser - not positive.

I have used for several years glass atomizers from "Accessories for Fragrances", their atomizers are top notch:

Can't give you scientific backup, but to me it's gotta be glass. Must be a reason 95% of fragrances are distributed that way.

The link from RudyVey above looks like a good source.

I've only made one purchase, but also had good luck with Accessories for Fragrances. From everything I've read, the overwhelming consensus is glass, for essentially the same reasons that vertigo mentions above.

I agree with glass. Just wonder why some manufacturers, GFT comes to mind, package larger sizes and/or travel bottles in plastic. Maybe it is some very special type of plastic. Lighter, less expensive, but seems like it would pick up some chemical tones from the plastic.

Accessoriesforfragramces.com, as noted, is great. Although not inexpensive.

    http://proudstyle.com/index.html is good and well-priced.

This place is great. http://www.trueessence.com/servlet/StoreFront If you can get by the brick and mortar store in Baltimore the selection is much more extensive and the prices on some things much better. If you call, you may be able to get different or better priced stuff.

What size of atomizer were you looking for?

I do not worry too much plastic versus glass, so long as the atomizer is specifically designed for scents.

ContainerStores sometimes has nice plastic 8 ml atomizers at 2 for $1.99, on sale sometimes for $1.49. Find them in their travel container section. They are for the most part colored, which I do not like.

Your are probably not going to reuse the atomizer part anyway, so you may not care about reusing the bottle either. I do not know whether I would reuse plastic or not.

Another +1 for Accessories for Fragrances. I used their atomizers for the Windsor split. No complaints thus far!

Sorry brick and mortar store goes by Taj Perfume. 124 Liberty Street, Baltimore, Maryland. Downtown, somewhat near Lexington Market, if I recall.

I think there is a non True Essence web site for the store, too.

Yes, and yes, actually! The store is mostly oils, incense, soaps, even regular colognes. They actually have a bunch of those heavy aluminum bottles on one shelf that I assume have real Middle Eastern/Indian subcontinent stuff in them, perhaps of decent quality I do not know. There is something of a language barrier.

Underneath the front counter and in a glass sided case in front of the counter are a whole bunch of decant type containers, including glass containers that will take regular plastic screw tops or these gold atomizer tops of various sizes that are identical to the ones accessoriesforfragrances has that Evbo used, as far as I can tell. The also have 8 ml or so atomizers in the shape of pens, that are okay, but opaque, and arguably a little corny. You may have to ask for them--you should talk to them anyway--and I will try to get you a photo, but they have 15 ml/ 1/2 oz, plastic covered glass vial plastic covered spray top, I suppose purse type atomizers, just in one size and one color, that are probably perfect for you. They are excellent and the price at the store is amazingly good, at least when you buy as many as I did. I may have bought 24 or 25 though.

They will hand you a brochure with decant vials and caps on it, but it will not have everything on it. You can buy different types of caps for say the cylindrical amber vials.

Prices really go down with quantity. I assume that if you want only a few of anything the prices are pretty decent. But the prices start to really get good around a dozen.

Their selection of atomizers actually is not all that great. If you are looking for 3 or 5 ml atomizers, I do not think they are going to have them at all. Their selection of non atomizer decant vials is wonderful!

I will try to find photos and will post.

Here ia a link to the what looks like what they have at the store, only the prices there are better than listed. http://www.taj-perfumes.com/bottles.htm

All of the caps and atomizer tops seem to be available separately.

The plastic covered 15ml atomizers are like this only copper colored and, of course, 5 ml bigger. Also smoother on the outside.
