He has suggested a 24mm knot (blondie) set at either 50 or 52. Im a soap and bowl user pretty new to wet shaving (9weeks or so), and was after some advice as to which loft i should go for? I havent face lathered yet, but will probably give it a run some time in the future.
From all your fine posts in this thread, this brush seem like it may be "The One" which you couldnt live without. Lovely looking beast with seemingly great performance.
I really like buying quality items and this seems just that, should i just go for it, or go with my original plan and buy a "Simpson Colonel" which would be around half the price?

Last question, white handle or fork out the xtra 20 and go the horn? It does look very nice.

    TIA
52 is nice for face or bowl. Both handles are outstanding. Personal preference makes your decision. Really, you can't go wrong as these are a high quality item either way.

Listen to Lee. A 24mm knot is a perfect size, unless you are Ken. I'd say 52mm loft. I have a 24 x 54mm, and I love it. I think a 52mm loft will satisfy any needs and certainly won't lack any backbone (maybe have more than enough). I'd also recommend the white handle. If you are just getting started, get something classic. Horn is known to fracture if dropped, and it needs a little TLC. Just look at the awesome pictures Melyus submitted to this thread above. How could you go wrong with the white handle?

Oh, and I would get this brush instead of the Colonel if you can afford it.

+1 to the above! These brushes make the Colonel look like a cheap boar. IMO
Go with what Lee recommends, he is the maestro!

I also have the 24 x 54mm, and absolutely adore it. My favorite brush at the moment, and above my Rooney 1XL

+1. Using mine over my Rooney Stubby 2XL and a Simpson 2 band.

Thanks fellas for your responses. I think i want the horn (handle ) but cant help looking back at the white, it is "classic" and would suit the white tips.

I think the horn looks way better, but as someone who has a cracked horn brush, I shy away from them now and go for acrylic handles.

Loric, what sort of TLC is needed on a horn handle, does it need polishing every so often? If so what with?

Odiously dont drop them for starters. Or more accurately for me dont let the mail main drop them before you get them....grumble. I sealed my cracks with clear nail polish and it seems to be just fine now. Aside from that the only real maintenance is applying Neatsfoot oil on them a couple times a year.

Neatsfoot Oil? Please enlighten me! I have only acquired horn handled brushes recently, please tell me how best to care for these handles.

You just did yourself a huge favor. Those sizes sound perfect to me. And when Lee sends you a picture of a brush, THAT is the brush you will get. Lucky you - that horn handle is a beaut. Now for the wait...

Lee sent my horn handle brush in one of those little red boxes. The brush had bubble wrap around it in the box, and the box was in a padded envelope. This did a nice job of keeping it safe.

I know how you feel, but have faith...They "lost" a package of mine and yet it materialized after about a month, so have faith and stay the course. They are a force to be reckoned with though and will not go out of their way to help.

You ARE right, on both counts

That said, Lee has something HUGE in the mail for me as we speak Don't want to spoil the surprise, but I will post pics once it arrives. It is something very special and totally unique.

I suggest talking to your mail carrier, unless the brush was coming to a PO box. Maybe he/she can look around for you.

I can only guess that this is a HUGE brush. The biggest Lee has ever made. And forget plain old Blonde Badger. This brush is from the extremely rare, now extinct, only available on the black market AMAZON Blonde. Right, Ken?
